Weather amnesty update

Dear MISSION board, 

I've included Ben and Lindsey in this email chain as this is a team effort.

Lindsay, Ben and I are all here together at Purple House for weather amnesty (night 3) writing a quick update. We had our opening night on Dec 31st, were open the next night on Jan 1st, and now Jan 4th. We have had a total of nine guests, who we typically transport to and from DTWC. Between the three of us and another volunteer, Chris, we plan on being open M-Sun; we are trying the seven day schedule out this week. By the end of this week, we will host a Narcan training — something we plan to do regularly. 

So far things have gone quite successfully.  

• the cots are really wonderful. (great reviews from those who have used them!)
• between the three rooms, there is adequate room to keep 6ft distance 
• We haven’t had much trouble getting out in the morning
• Everyone has been super respectful of the contract agreement and space in general

Still, when folks are sleeping, we’ve been able to talk through hypotheticals and discuss general protocols. 

There are a few things that we feel need to be addressed as soon as possible:

• lack of hot water which means folks are unable to wash their hands in hot water and with Covid this is a BIG issue to me, general lack of heating in the non-sleeping space
• the outlet in the non-sleeping space is not functioning
• toilet tank does not refill automatically. 

Ben has taken on being the lead contact person for weather amnesty, (which is huge) and I'm always kept in the loop so I am aware that Ben has communicated these issues with Brian and Brian said he would address them.

Thanks for the update.

Tate and I will be over there today. We’re going to be getting the hot water heater operating today. We’re going to get the keys cut at Lowe’s. And we’re going to make assessments on the other projects including the toilet, the outlets and the remaining items on our punchlist.

A couple of things I intended to include with my weather amnesty update and forgot .

1. On Friday  Jan 1st I called the Ann Arbor police to let them know we would be having activity going on at the house  it was appreciated that I called them and left them my phone number as a contact 

2. If anyone could check on  the wifi status ?
