All,

The Colorado Cycling Team (CCT) and our annual ride now known as the First Ascent Ride has been a success from the beginning, which was almost five years ago.  All the elements of a successful team and ride were in place including sponsorships with Wheat Ridge Cyclery, Ride The Rockies, corporate sponsors and the USA Pro Challenge.  While our financial contributions to LIVESTRONG and the local cancer community have not met our desired overall financial goals we have contributed over $150,000 (estimate including Team dues, ride profits, corporate donations, member donations, Iron Horse Bicycle Classic and misc.) to the cancer survivor community.  Our team has also participated in a number of local efforts that support cancer survivors.  Included in our efforts was the fun of cycling together, working hard to stay fit and promoting a healthy lift style to our membership and cancer survivors.  On balance, we have made a very important and substantial contribution to the cancer survivor community.

Sustaining a viable organization whose focus is helping others is hard work but we seem to have lost the stomach for working through the tough tasks ahead, including growing our Team, executing our Ride and getting corporate sponsors.  Recently a number of factors/events/situations have occurred which have adversely impacted our Team's ability to continue as an organization and our ability to conduct the First Ascent Ride.  The most significant of these is the apparent member lack of interest and willingness to support and contribute to the Team's mission.   As a result, most of the work was necessarily  conducted by a limited number of members.  Other factors leading to our decline include: 1) the recent and unanticipated mass resignations by five out of seven officer team and Board members, 2) the loss of sponsorship from Wheat Ridge Cyclery, 3) the declining image of LIVESTRONG, 4) the lack of marketing support from LIVESTRONG and 5) an unwillingness to reach out to potential corporate sponsors.

Given all of the above the Colorado Cycling Team Benefiting LIVESTRONG will cease to exist and the First Ascent Ride will close.  In addition, all discounts for our Team at Wheat Ridge Cyclery are  terminated.

This is not a decision that we (our remaining Board Members) feel comfortable with, but is unavoidable based upon our assessment of the current situation. We have met with a number of members and have reluctantly concluded that this action is necessary.  Thank you for your participation in CCT and best of luck in your future riding. We look forward to seeing you on the road.

If you have any questions or want to discuss this matter further please give one of us a call.
