Hi CCTBL Board -

I won't be able to make it to tonight's board meeting due to a previously scheduled event (I'm singing in a Christmas Eve program and tonight's the dress rehearsal). However, I did want to express my thoughts on what's going on with the team to add my voice to tonight's discussion.

First, I'm planning on resigning from the board at the end of this year. It's been a great experience, but after two and a half years, I feel that someone else should take my place on the board. I have a lot of things on my plate this coming year, and I no longer have the capacity to work as a board member. As we've discussed, one of the issues for me has been that the same 5 people end up doing everything all year long, without much participation from the rest of the team. I don't know how to get people involved more, but based on the survey results it sounds like at least 20 people want to continue on with the team. Thanks to all of you for being so great to work with - I'm sure we'll be seeing each other at various events this coming year. I also would like to resign from doing the team newsletter, which has been pretty spotty over the last six months anyhow.

Second, i think the CCTBL team should continue, with maybe more of a focus on social activities and getting together for cycling, running, and hiking types of events. I don't think that the volunteering as a team is working, since no one but George, Steve, and me showed up for that, and we can continue to volunteer on our own. My vote would be to re-name it to just the Colorado Cycling Team, which is our official team name anyhow. But we could change the name on the team kit and other materials to reflect this. I think we should continue to raise money for Livestrong and participate in Team Livestrong events, but we should also raise money for other cancer charities and so we don't need Livestrong in our name.

Third, if people want to set up a racing component I think that's fine. I think we have some people on the team who are really interested in doing that. I personally would not get involved with this, as I'm no bike racer! But if would be fun to cheer the team on.

Fourth, if some people want to continue to use the Colorado Cycling Team as a sponsor of a bike ride like the First Ascent and maintain its nonprofit status, I'm fine with that. The new board members would just have to figure out how to get that set up for the spring.

I think that's everything I wanted to say. I'm sure we'll continue to work on various fundraising and cycling events together in the coming year. I will continue to work as a volunteer at Exempla St. Joseph's, as an advisory board member for Camp Kesem, and as a LIVESTRONG Leader this coming year, so see at least some of you there.

Thanks again to all of you who have given your time and energy to CCTBL - it has been great working with you.

Susan
