Dear NARF supporters and friends,

The Native American Rights Fund (NARF) is the oldest and largest nonprofit law firm dedicated to asserting and defending the rights of Indian tribes, organizations and individuals nationwide and has been serving native nations for over 40 years.  While they were originally founded in Oakland in 1970 under the sponsorship of the California Indian Legal Services, they have been located in Boulder, Colorado for many decades. NARF's practice is concentrated in five key areas: the preservation of tribal existence; the protection of tribal natural resources; the promotion of Native American human rights; the accountability of governments to Native Americans; and the development of Indian law and educating the public about Indian rights, laws, and issues.

John Echohawk, a member of the Pawnee Tribe of Oklahoma, has served as the Executive Director of the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) since 1977. One of the first graduates of a special law program for Native Americans at the University of New Mexico, he is a leading force in Indian Law and Policy and has been involved in cases supporting Indian rights all over the country. As one of the most sought after experts on Indian issues, he is often asked to serve on special commissions that will affect tribes everywhere. He has won numerous awards over the years for his devotion to improving the lives of Indian tribes and individuals and has done an incredible job with NARF.

In early June, John Echohawk will be in town briefly and we are delighted that he has agreed to spend some time with us talking about NARF.  Richard Trudell, one of NARF’s founding board members and founder of the American Indian Lawyers Training Program (aka the American Indian Resources Institute), will also be there to introduce John and talk about NARF’s early days. We’d be delighted to have you join us on Tuesday, June 4 from 6:30-8:30 pm, when we will host John at Intertribal Friendship House, 523 International Boulevard in Oakland, CA, for a presentation with light refreshments and a community welcome.

For those of you who have not met John before, this is an opportunity to meet one of our dedicated and important leaders in Indian Country.  For those of you who already know John, it will be an opportunity to reconnect.   We will all learn more about NARF’s important work.   We would like you to be part of this night and look forward to seeing you here.  Please RSVP on Facebook: NARF Presentation with John Echohawk, or, if you are not on Facebook, reply to janeen...@mac.com.

Thank you and best regards,
