Dear Boa User,
I hope you are doing well. We are writing with an important update about the Boa language and the cyberinfrastructure that has been hosted at Iowa State University for the past thirteen years. Thank you for your continued support throughout this journey. We are deeply grateful to the U.S. National Science Foundation and Iowa State University for their sustained investment, which has allowed Boa to grow into a unique and impactful research and education platform.
Boa has had far-reaching influence. It has powered dozens of Ph.D. dissertations, master’s theses, and peer-reviewed publications across software engineering, data science, and empirical methods. It has been adopted in undergraduate and graduate courses at universities around the world, introducing hundreds of students to large-scale mining of software repositories. This community has made Boa what it is today.
As part of an intellectual property agreement between Iowa State University and Tulane University, the Boa cyberinfrastructure will now move to its new home. Going forward, the service will be accessible at:
Over the next couple of months, we will begin standing up components of the service at this new address. Functionality will come online in phases as the migration proceeds.
There is one important step that requires your attention. Because the terms of service do not permit user data to be transferred to Tulane, we are unable to migrate your past queries and results. If you would like to keep any of your current data, you must download it from the existing system.
Please download all data you wish to retain no later than January 24, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. After this deadline, the current Boa system at Iowa State University will begin its decommissioning process.
Thank you for your understanding during this transition. We sincerely appreciate your long-standing engagement with Boa and look forward to supporting the community as we relaunch and expand the Boa project.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
All our best,
Boa team
