Hi All,

I have a curious problem with our dial-out modems. I have a dial
out modem (Quadcraft 4 speed modem by Datacraft) which I am trying
to get to dial a modem in the Philipeans. When I dial up using
% cu -l cuas07
CONNECTED
at
OK
atd00111xxxxxx
I hear the dialling progress, and then the other modem answers, and then
I hear an unwavering tone, and after several seconds, the other modem
hangs up.

I then connected up another modem (Dataplex DPX-223). Using the exact same
dialling method, I get a short tone, and data burst and then a sucessful
connection.

So, I think that the parameters of the modems mus be different. I print out
all the configuration parameters, and form a spreadsheet trying to link
common AT commands. Then I configure the Quadcraft up with similar
parameters (as best as I can) similar to the Dataplex. But it still doesn't
work.

I have found modems unrealiable at the best of times, but this modem
differences has got me stumped, especially the constant tone at the start.

Anybody hear this type of tone before?

Cheers

Tom.
