I try to avoid the news at the moment.

It’s full of negativity and let’s be honest - we’ve all got enough of that in our lives right now!

But every now and then a friend will share a news report on Facebook that catches my eye.

Yesterday I was merrily scrolling through my newsfeed, looking for more memes and funny cat videos to lift my mood, when I came across an article about recent break-in rates.

Now, being in the security industry we know all about break-ins. Preventing them is kind of what we do!

I knew that the recent lockdown would result in a rise in burglaries but what I didn’t realise was just how fast it would happen!

According to this article (which I will take with a pinch of salt as it was in The Express), within less than 24 hours of the lockdown starting police forces reported a number of arrests of suspects carrying crowbars and hammers!

Now, I know DIY is a popular pastime right now but I don’t think that’s what these guys had planned.

So if you’re a business owner with premises what can you do to protect yourself during the lockdown?

Well, there are no guarantees but there are some things you can do to reduce your risks.

Install CCTV & be sure to shout about it - CCTV can work excellently as a deterrent but the thieves and vandals need to know that you have it! Put signs up telling people that your premises are CCTV protected and if your CCTV system is outdated or faulty now is definitely the time for an update.

Hire a security company - If you think your business is really high risk then it might be a good investment to hire a security company. They can board up your premises and do regular day or night patrols.

Do a lock check - Just because your premises is locked doesn’t mean it is safe. Some locks offer better protection than others. Old locks can weaken over time and some locks are so lame they could be picked with a toothpick!

So if you’re concerned about the security of your locks or need a little assistance with your CCTV then we’re happy to help. Just give us a call on 0800 0191 101 and we’ll advise you on the best options to help keep your premises safe.
