Have you ever had your car stolen?

When you think about car theft you probably think of dodgy back streets, dingy car parks or traffic light hijacks. The last place you expect it to happen is on your very own drive

But it’s really not uncommon to have your pride and joy stolen right from under your nose, while you’re snuggled up in bed sleeping.

A few months ago Kieran was called out to a job one morning in Canvey Island.

The homeowner had been burgled the night before - and his brand spanking new Range Rover stolen off his drive.

It was a sad story - the guy was home and awake, as it was only 11pm.

He had a composite door which had not been doubled locked - it turned out that he thought just lifting the handle double-locked the door!

It doesn’t.

The thieves had been easily able to use a screwdriver to ‘pop’ it open with him completely unaware inside. Scary stuff!

Luckily the thieves only took the keys and left him unharmed.

If the front door had been double-locked it would have been considerably more difficult for the thieves to get into the property. And his pride and joy might still be on the driveway as a result!

So here’s the lesson:

‘Lift it, TURN THE KEY, Lock it, REMOVE THE KEY’

If I had a £1 for every time I had to explain how to properly lock a UPVC/Composite door, well, I certainly wouldn’t need to wish for a Range Rover!
