חברים יקרים.
רבים מכם שלקחו חלק בסיורים שלנו לחברון פגשו את משפחת אל-עזה מתל-רומידה. אני בטוח שרבים מכם חוו את הכנסת האורחים החמה של האשם ואחיו הישאם שפועלים איתנו יחד מעל שלוש שנים. במשך דורות קיימה המשפחה מסורת של רצון לחיות בדו-קיום ולשאוף לשלום בין הצדדים. למרות הפגיעות היום יומיות מצד המתנחלים המשפחה עדיין מאמינה בצורך להאבק בעויינות וחוסר האמון בין הצדדים ע"מ לסלול דרך לעתיד טוב יותר. פעילות המשפחה מייצרת את הגשר האמיתי בין שני העמים. הם שייכים לבני אברהם.
למרבה הצער נפגע הישאם במהלך האינתיפאדה הראשונה, כשאולץ ע"י כוח גבעתי לטפס על עמוד חשמל ולהסיר דגל פלשתין שתלו מספר נערים. הישאם התחשמל ואיבד את התפקוד והתחושה ביד שמאל.
המשפחה מעולם לא הגישה תלונה ובכל מקרה לא תקבל שום פיצוי מהמדינה.
להישאם חמישה ילדים ומאז שנפגע הוא לא מצליח למצוא עבודה מתאימה ולפרנס את משפחתו. הוא מתפרנס מעבודות לא סדירות בשכר זעום.
בשנה שעברה הכרנו להישאם בעזרת הרופאים לזכויות אדם את ד"ר יפה מתל השומר. ד"ר יפה הבטיחה להישאם להחזיר לו את רוב התפקוד והתחושה ביד הפגועה ע"י סדרת ניתוחים.
לפני כשנה עבר הישאם את הניתוח הראשון בהצלחה והוחזרה לו התחושה וחלק מתנועת האצבעות. הישאם עומד לעבור את הניתוח הבא בשבוע הבא. עליו לעבור עוד שני ניתוחים נוספים. עלות הניתוח הראשון היתה 15,000 ש"ח ומומנה ע"י חברים והלוואות. השתתפות הרשות הפלסטינאית היא סמלית בלבד.
עפ"י הערכות הנהלת בית החולים עלות הניתוח הנוכחי כ 20,000 ש"ח.
המשפחה מיצתה את כל מקורותיה הכלכליים.

Dear friends.
Many of you, who visited Hebron with us, met the El-Aza family in Tel-Rumeida. I'm sure many of you experienced the warm hospitality of Hashem and his brother Hisham, who are working closely with us over three years now. For more than a generation this quiet family is lead by the tradition of living together all people in peace. In spite the daily harassment from the settlers, they still believe that we should try hard to overcome the threats and mistrust between the Israelis and Palestinian. They form the real human bricks on which the bridge between the two nations will be based. They are part of Bnei Avraham.
This is why it is so shameful that Hisham hurt his left hand severely during the first Intifada. Hisham was forced by Givaati platoon to climb on an electricity pole to remove a Palestinian flag some kids hanged. He was electrified and lost all motion and sensing functions of his hand. The family never complained about the event to the authorities and in any case may not receive compensation from the state of Israel.
Hisham is married and has 5 children. His disability prevents him from finding a job that will support the family life. During the years he was occupied in different low pay works.
Last year Hisham was introduced by us and the help of doctors for human rights to Dr. Yafe from Sheba Hospital, who promised him to fix his hand through a series of operations. The first of them took place last February and was very successful. Great deal of his finger sensing and some of his motion were brought back to him. His next operation is due next week. Hisham will have to go through other two or three procedures
The costs of each operation are beyond the family capabilities. The first operation cost 15,000 NIS. Great deal of the money was borrowed from friends. The PA finances very small part of the sum.
This operation cost is estimated by the Sheba administration about 20,000NIS. The family has exhausted its own resources.
