I heard rumors that this is possible. Can someone confirm this with some certainty? And not just "a friend of a friend said is should be possible" ;-)

I just removed the crossmember under the pan - it’s trivial to unbolt.

I did the same thing that Kurt did. That was the easiest way for me at least.

Thomas,

You might want to explain what all your objectives are and the problem(s) you expect to solve. There are many others who could give you further advice. I haven’t had to, but it might be necessary to unbolt engine mounts and raise the engine (also) if you are removing the rods and pistons, for example. If you only want to replace the oil pan gaskets, maybe not.

Thanks gents.
No 1 objective is to fix oil pan leak, i.e. new gasket, etc.. No work inside engine.
Which seem to be possible by either unbolt and lowering the crossmember. Or loosen engine mounts and raise engine
No 2 objective and while I'm working on the oilpan, fix the timingchain cover leak.

Thanks again

Mission completed. Tried lowering crossmember. Unbolting was easy, but seemed quite stuck and I was reluctant to use the force which was required.
Instead loosened engine mounts and raise engine. Then you get space to unbolt oilpump and let it sink into pan and then take it out.
