Hi!
My laptop has been having a weird issue. When i boot it, it shows the error in the attached pic. I press a key and nothing happens. When i force shut down(long press the power button) and then boot again, it loads the os with no issue.

Could someone please tell me what's going on?

.................

Well it essentially isn't able to see a bootable device, was there something you did recently that may have caused it?

Nothing really.
Fact is, it is able to find the booting device the second time. So I'm plain confused.

Also, there is a random clicking sound occasionally and when it comes my laptop hangs completely.

"clicking sound" --> your disk is going to crash/has already crashed, turn your computer off *now*. Get a ubuntu usb/cd from somewhere, boot from it, copy whatever you can to an external disk. Once that is done, if its under warranty, give to the manufacturer they'll replace one.

This is starting to sound like a Hard Disk failure. Run a hard disk health scan using any of the many tools you can find. :)

Cheers,
Om

I would like to add that you should use ddrescue to copy the data. Normal copy-pasting of data from a crashed hard drive is not a good idea, and in most cases you won't be able to copy successfully anyway. . Ddrescue worked great for me (had to use it just yesterday).
