FWIW, spokesman Dan Martin of Google told Joanna Sullivan for her BBJ
Editor's Notebook last week that the announcement is still set for
“early this year.”

We are less than a week away from 2Q2011, which for some marks the end
of "early this year." And TOMORROW is the 1 year anniversary of the
due date for Google Fiber submissions. So one teeny tiny part of my
brain speculated that JUST MAYBE today or Monday could be the day.
A few weeks ago I wrote a short piece pointing out that Baltimore
probably better off viz its broadband future than most cities vying
for Google Fiber.
http://tomloveland.com/broadband-update-201102/ If
Google skips over us (heaven forbid), we shouldn't wallow in sorrow.
Rather, we should redouble our efforts to leverage the fiber assets we
do have.
Even if Google does come, it won't be a panacea for all in our
community. We'll still have lots to do to extend coverage to every
business and citizen.
Thanks for the post, Gary!
