Hey guys, I just wanted to let everyone know that now is as good of a time as any to join us for our iPhone development.  Though we started several weeks ago, we haven't gotten very deep into iPhone-specific development just yet.  In fact, as Sinclair noted in his message that went out Thursday (copied below), we are actually going to get started working through the Stanford University lecture series.

Our homework for this coming week is to review the first three lectures (about an hour each).  You can find the lectures linked off the syllabus: http://www.stanford.edu/class/cs193p/cgi-bin/index.php .  Scroll all the way to the bottom and work your way up.

The first couple lectures are very introductory, so if you've already got a handle on the platform, you can probably skim through them very quickly.  We'll likely slow down to one or two lectures for subsequent weeks.

It probably goes without saying, but you will get the most out of our sessions if you have you completed the homework before arriving.  Though our sessions will still have relatively little structure, now that we have a plan to follow they should be much more effective and educational for all.

Hope to see many of you come out this Thursday.

-John

The plan is to follow the Stanford University lecture series structure

For next week

- watch up to the third lecture in the Stanford University lecture series  'iphone Application Development'  (CS 193P)
(the first lecture is most skippable)

- read over the accompanying notes and examples

- come with questions

I just wanted to remind everyone about tomorrow's meetup early enough that you'd have time to review the lectures.  The first lecture is a complete waste of time (unless you care to know how Stanford runs its courses), so feel free to skip it.

See you all tomorrow.

John,

Thanks for the reminder.  I watched Lecture 2 and Lecture 3.  Lecture 2 is a little slow, but I thought Lecture 3 was great.  I've gone through several resources for learning Objective-C/Cocoa/iPhone Development (The apress books, the prag prog, the peepcode screencasts, Erica Sadun's book, the O'Reilly iPhone SDK book) and I really think this is better than all of them.  I really like how they are covering the language fundamentals first, without jumping right into Interface Builder.

Anyway, I'll see you guys tonight, 6:30 at the ETC?

Yeah, 6:30 at the ETC.

Both lectures were extremely helpful for me.  I feel a lot more grounded in the fundamentals, and I think it will be a lot easier for me to read/interpret other people's code.
