Hello BMB'ers!
June is just about done and things are heating up! It was great to see a strong BMB presence at last weekend's Socal Showdown
USAT archery tournament; well done to all who participated, it's great
to see local talent competing on the national stage! Hopefully the USAT-style club shoot we held was helpful for preparing.
Here's what's going on in and around the range this month:
- BMB jerseys: our jerseys vendor, YoungSpeeds (now GNB), has put up a link where you can place an order for custom BMB jerseys: https://youngspeeds.com/products/black-mountain-bowmen-custom-archery-jerseys-2025. Once enough orders have accumulated to make a batch, the jerseys are produced and shipped to us.
- Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2025 Wednesday Night 3D League which concluded on June 11. The final scores and standings can be viewed at https://blackmountainbowmen.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/06/3D-League-2025-Master-Score-Sheet-FINAL.pdf.
- The 3D League Potluck/BBQ is coming up on Saturday, July 12.
We'll award medals to the top finishers, raffle off prizes, and treat
everyone to some delicious grillables and other food. Everyone who
participated in or helped out with the 3D League is invited! If you're
interested in attending, please help us plan logistics by RSVP'ing.
- New target bales! We took delivery of a
truckload of new PacBow target bales early in June. These should provide
durable stopping power on our most-shot targets for quite some time,
but at 240 pounds apiece, we need your help to install
them. We plan on replacing as many bales as we can during the Work
Party, but are open to opportunities to servicing targets one or two at a
time at other times; all that's needed is a truck, two or more people
(preferably 3 or 4), and half an hour. If you can help, please contact us.
- The July range maintenance Work Party will take place next Saturday, July 5.
We realize the timing may not be ideal as it's a holiday weekend, but
please consider coming out and helping to make the range a better place
to shoot!
- Work starts around 8 AM (late arrivals okay); come find us
in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. Please bring
work/gardening gloves if you have them. Both members and non-members are
welcome; we appreciate any help!
- To thank our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
- All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
- Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
- For our July Club Shoot on Sunday, July 13,
we'll be returning to our regular NFAA 900 round format (five 6-arrow
ends at 60, 50, and 40 yards, on 122-cm 10-ring targets; shorter
distances for youth and cub archers), to give archers a chance to
practice ahead of the MTBA 900 tournament the following month.
- As usual, the shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
- Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering.
- Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
- Registration is open for the Mission Trails Bowhunters Association (MTBA) regional 900 tournament, to be hosted at BMB, August 9 and 10. Help earn points for BMB as we compete to be 2025 MTBA Club Of The Year!
- You can elect to shoot on Saturday or on Sunday, or shoot in different equipment classes on each day.
- Entry fees are $20 for adults, $15 for youth (12-17), $11 for cubs (11 and under).
- Find out more about MTBA tournaments over on the MTBA website.
- Got materials? To help us maintain and
repair structures and fixtures around the range, such as bow hangers,
target frames, picnic tables, etc., we could use donations of leftover,
salvaged, or unused construction materials, such as lumber, plywood,
metal, and hardware. If it's something you've seen around the range,
chances are we can use more of it.
It's going to be a busy month. Stay safe, stay cool everyone, and good luck to those competing at the California State Outdoor Championships this weekend!
See you at the range!
