Happy New Year everyone! We hope you've enjoyed a great winter holiday, whichever one(s) you celebrate. Here's looking forward to another action-packed year in archery...

New leadership team

With the leadership election in the books, here's your 2026 BMB leadership team: reprising their roles from last year are President Chris Plumeau, Treasurer Ron May-Pumphrey, Secretary Viet-Tam Luu, and Board members Chuck GilbertThalia HsiehMark Nishihara, and Winston Wang. Our two new Board members are Gregg Uyeda and Steve Yang, two friendly faces and BMB regulars known to many of you; we thank them in advance for joining the leadership team.

Moving on from their prior BMB Board member roles are Ashley DuongLilith Mariano, and Dawnel Scott. We thank them for all their past service and contributions and hope to see them around at the range and at upcoming events.

New bales received!

Your membership dollars at work: we recently took delivery of a whole truckload of high-density archery target bales from Little Sioux (formerly Pacific Bow). Thanks to Chris and Will for their help unloading them, and to Tam and Mark for securing them against the blast of winter weather that blew through this past week.

These bales are projected to last as long as two years on lesser-used targets, and many times longer than our previous bales on even the busiest targets. Once installed, these will significantly reduce the amount of work needed to maintain the range. If you've had issues with targets that no longer stop your arrows, consider coming out to our upcoming Work Party to help install these new bales and make shoot-throughs a thing of the past!

2026 membership applications and renewals

The renewal form for 2026 BMB membership applications and renewals is open for business. Your membership fees are the main way through which we fund the upkeep and improvement of the archery range and facilities, so we're grateful for your support and appreciate everyone who renews their membership earlier in the year so we can ensure a healthy outlook for the year's budget.

To join BMB for 2026, or to renew your membership (online or by mail), go over to the Membership page of the BMB website and follow the instructions and links from there.

January events and updates

We're fortunate to live in a place where we can enjoy outdoor archery year round, even if it is a little chilly or a little damp; here's what's going on at BMB this coming month:

  • Our monthly range maintenance Work Party is happening on Saturday, January 3 (subject to weather, so stay tuned for announcements). Please "resolve" to come out, help out with a bit of maintenance and give the range of a bit of "TLC", and get some of those new bales installed and stopping arrows!
    • Work starts around 8 AM (late arrivals okay); come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. Both BMB members and non-members are welcome!
      • Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
    • To thank our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
    • It will be yours truly's (Tam's) birthday, so there will be cake!
    • All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
    • Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
  • The January Club Shoot will be held on Sunday, January 11. To help archers practice for upcoming indoor competitions, the format will be an indoor-style double 300 round:
    • Archers will shoot two rounds, each round 10 ends of 3 arrows, at 20 yards (18m), on individual 40cm targets (60cm for cub archers), with a 15 minute break in between the rounds. Those shooting 40cm targets may choose between a 10-ring target and a 3-spot target. Archers will have 2 ends of practice prior to the official shoot. Target assignments will be posted the morning of the event at the range. Archers will be grouped by division according to NFAA rules.
    • As usual, the shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
    • Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering.
    • Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
  • Registration is open for the California Bowmen Hunters (CBH) 2026 State Indoor Championship tournament, happening at various venues and times throughout the state in January.
    • Go to the CBH calendar page and look up your preferred venue and shooting date/time to register.
  • If you ordered a BMB archery jersey in October and November and haven't yet picked it up, please get in contact with us so that we can get your jersey to you.

That's it for this month. Keep warm and stay dry, everyone, and good luck to all those competing at the CBH and/or State Archers of California Indoor Championships tournaments!
