Greetings everyone!
It was great to see a great turnout by BMB archers at this year's Vegas Shoot. With that big event now in the books, outdoor season is now well and truly under way. Here are your BMB updates for this month:
- If you haven't already, please renew your BMB membership for 2026. Thank you for your support!
- Our monthly range maintenance Work Party is happening this Saturday, April 4. Please come and help us out with upkeep and improvements to the range; no experience necessary, all are welcome!
- Work starts around 8 AM (late arrivals okay); come find us in the clubhouse/picnic area by the main parking. Both BMB members and non-members are welcome!
- Dress as if for yard work, and bring work/gardening gloves if you have them.
- To thank our volunteers, we'll be serving lunch and refreshments when work activities wrap up.
- All parts of the range will be closed to shooting, and will reopen no earlier than 2 PM.
- Looking to log volunteer hours? Sign up via the Santa Clara County volunteering site.
- Cardboard needed! We need cardboard panels and boxes as backing for the field target faces we deploy throughout the range. If you've got a large cardboard box you're getting rid of, or can harvest cardboard being thrown out by various businesses, please leave them behind the "serving counter" facing the picnic area (between the parking lot and the practice range).
- The April Club Shoot will take place next weekend, Sunday, April 12. The Club Shoot format for the outdoor season is the NFAA 900 round:
- Archers will shoot three rounds, each of five 6-arrow ends, at 60, 50, and 40 yards, on 122-cm 10-ring targets (shorter distances for youth and cub archers).
- There will be two ends of practice prior to the first round (distance), and 10-15 minute breaks between each round.
- Archers will be grouped and assigned to targets by division according to NFAA rules.
- New to tournament archery? Check out this great introductory video from the fine folks at Pasadena Roving Archers.
- As usual, the shoot is free for current BMB members, $10 for guests.
- Walk-ons are welcome, though we do appreciate those who help us plan ahead by preregistering.
- Setup begins around 8am, and we aim to start shooting around 9am.
- Our Wednesday Night 3D League is in full swing and happens every Wednesday until June 3.
- $10 for adults (16+), $5 for youth (11-15), free for cub archers (6-10).
- Shooting times begin at 4pm and run through 6pm.
- Learn more at our 3D League web page.
- Rattlesnake season began early this year, thanks to some unusually warm weather last month. We've already had some sightings, so please be careful when walking through tall grass (avoid if possible), and if you do encounter any sort of snake, try to give it a wide berth and let it move away. Here's some additional rattlesnake safety information from Sonoma Regional County Parks. If absolutely necessary, BMB does have a set of snake tongs for capturing and relocating snakes (please don't steal our snake tongs... again).
Looking for more events? Here's what's happening elsewhere at other MTBA ranges:
- Registration is open for the 2026 NFAA Southwest Sectionals field archery tournament at King's Mountain Archers, June 14.
- The Kings Royal Hunt fun 3D shoot happens at King's Mountain Archers next weekend, Saturday, April 12.
- Bowhunters Unlimited is hosting their Traditional Shoot 3D tournament this Saturday, April 4.
That's what we've got for April. There's lots going on around here and elsewhere, so good luck to those competing in tournaments this month, and happy shooting, everyone!
