Arlington Public Schools (APS) is beginning a process of refining boundaries for its three comprehensive high schools. High school student enrollment is expected to rise to 9,700 in 2025 from 6,444 now, an increase of 3,256. Boundary refinement is one tool APS will be using to better utilize facilities. The final refinement will be communicated at High School Information Night on December 12, 2016. It will possibly change neighborhood high schools for students entering only the ninth grade in the fall of 2017 and for younger students. It will include options for siblings of current high school students.
The residences in Bluemont that could be assigned to a different high school are north of Wilson Blvd between N. Harrison St and Bluemont Park, which are planning units 1407 and 1410.
The refinement process is considering, among other things, efficiency, alignment, proximity, demographics, stability, and contiguity.
APS might have to further refine boundaries in 2022.
County residents can participate in the refinement process by attending any of four community information sessions. Sessions on October 12, 17, and 19 will be preceded by tours of the high school facility where the meetings are held. Tours start at 6:30 PM and meetings start at 7:00 PM. The session on October 15 begins at 10:00 AM.
