At the Wednesday, October 21 meeting of the Arlington Forest Citizens Association, the Acting County Manager, Mark Schwartz, Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, Jane Rudolph and Department of Environmental Services Deputy Director, George May will discuss recent  developments and progress toward the new and improved Lubber Run Community Center. The meeting, open to the public, will be at 7:00 pm in the Library of the Barrett Elementary School, corner of N. George Mason Drive and N. Henderson Rd.

From the environmental forum announcement: Attend Arlington’s first ever county board candidates forum on environmental issues! The forum will be held Wednesday, October 7 from 7:00pm to 9:00 pm at the Arlington Trades Center, Conference Room, 2700 S. Taylor St., off S. Four Mill Run Drive, (near the County Animal Welfare Shelter) in the Shirlington neighborhood. Questions to candidates may be submitted in advance to : in...@arlingtonparkscoalition.org

The event will focus on candidates' positions on topics such as:
  •     Providing parks, recreation services, natural amenities and tree canopy in a growing Arlington
  •     Protecting environmental services through trees and natural resource solutions
  •     Managing stormwater and watershed protection
  •     Air and water quality
Arlington has lost approximately 80 percent of its mature tree canopy since 1980 and our parkland per resident has been steadily declining. At 7.9 acres of parkland per 1,000 residents, we rank behind the cities of Washington D.C., Honolulu, Oakland, Minneapolis, Seattle and Los Angeles. It is a vital time to learn about our candidates' views on planning for parks and a green Arlington.
