How do I disable the conversion of special characters, such as: & # 64 ;

I want the @ symbol in my code looked like & # 64; (no spaces).
This editor is to convert to the @ symbol automatically. How do I disable this conversion?

I think that the issue is that the @ symbol isn't 'special' in any
way. It is a member of the ASCII set.
