If I choose File | Open File ... from the BG menu I cannot open more than a single file at a time, even though BG supports multiple tabs. Is this a bug in BG or just a limitation in how it works ?

Hi Edward,
It's a limitation on how it works.

I found increasing the list of recently used files (Tools >
Preferences > File > Maximum number of files in recent history) from
the default was helpful (but, I accept, not a total solution).

Bear in mind that BG does not have a multi-file search and replace
facility, so tasks such as adding a menu option that appears on every
page is best done in an external text editor with the appropriate
facility for that task.

It means I see no pressing reason for loading multiple files at the
same time. You might as well just load an individual file as you need
to edit it.

Having said that, I believe the "Project Manager" add-on provides a
multi-file load facility.

It's a limitation on how it works.

Thanks, at least I know it is not a bug.

The need is that it is tedious to go back to a directory in the File | Open File... dialog in order to open files one at a time if one has to modify, let's say, 10 files within a single directory. It really should be a trivial programming task opening multiple files at a time and showing each in a different new tab considering that BG is perfectly capable of open a single file at a time and showing it in a new tab.

I looked at this add-on before but it did not seem to offer much and also seemed to enforce primitive constraints of what it considered a project. In particular, if I remember, it wanted a URL where the web pages could be uploaded. Maybe the user of a "Project Manager" is just trying to use it to organize his web pages without needing to upload them anywhere. But the add-on did not seem to consider that perfectly normal possibility.

That's more or less the scenario I had in mind when I suggested having
a long enought list of recently used file to be able to easily access
a number from the current project.

I think it's more that it is intended as a device to encourage people
to buy add-ons to make the program work the way they'd like.

I agree. It's one reason that I didn't bother to buy it. For my usage,
the long recent files list appears to be more convenient than the
Project Manager.

Project Manager indeed requires a working ftp-connection - IMO there is still room for improvement.

I am using it as a tool for access to local files quite often - as well as the recently opened file list, btw.

EG to open files in the project, which where not opened so recently or to insert images from the images directory, it comes in quite handy.

To sync automatically with the website, I use WinSCP. Not without "peculiarities", but by and large a big worksaver.

Autosync in project manager would be a big leap forward.

Also, to have several files open directly after startup is a work saver.

I am using BG for web pages that are part of projects using subversion or git. I don't need any ftp connection just to use BG and the Project Manager should not insist on an ftp connection just to use its project organization of web pages feature. I don't mind paying for an add-on, but not when it insists on something irrelevant for my usage of it. Whoever created the add-on should realize that having an ftp connection should be totally optional to its use, not a requirement.

I think so too, only I am a little more tolerant towards little disadvantages.
