I'm not sure why, but a big tree was removed from our street today, and now our street looks even less leafy than before.

I remember when we moved here 23 years ago that the street was fully lined on both sides with trees which formed a leaf canopy from one side of the the street to the other.  It was absolutely gorgeous back then.

What would it take for our property owners to make a financial committment to replant the shade trees that we have lost over the years.  They say the best time to plant a tree is 10 years ago.  Our street can be beautiful and lush again but only if we start making an investment in it now.  Anyone have any ideas?

I can't believe they took that tree down. It looked healthy to me. Was there a reason they took it down?

Maybe we can organize a block planting party in a week or two. Everyone can label their tools and make them available to everyone to use and we can have refreshments etc. Maybe we can even organize a large order from Lowes or some nursery to get a group rate?

There is a good sized oak tree sapling growing too close to the back of 2198. We could try relocating it. Also, at our home in KY, we have many walnut trees that are about 1.5 meters tall. What do you think about fruit trees?
Thanks,

Fruit trees are smaller, so they would be good to situate closer to your house or in your backyard.
For lining the street a large shade tree would be the best choice.

Further discussion of this topic should be with a new subject line: Bluegrass Shady Business

I think we should leaf the subject line alone.
