For those who aren't on Ray Warren's email list. See below. Any interest in forming an official Block Watch for Blue Grass (we can include houses that have alleys behind Blue Grass)?

From Councilman Ray Warren: Amberley prides itself as being among the low crime communities. This does not prevent any crime from occurring, however. Unfortunately, things sometimes happen. Many Amberley residents have heard of the recent break-in, car theft, and attempted kidnapping of a homeowner on Fair Oaks. We have much to be grateful for the swift apprehension by our police officers of the two perpetrators and, fortunately no one was seriously injured. What most of you may not be aware of, was that the capture of the perpetrators was in part related to the vigilance of a Block Watcher in a neighboring community. This leads me to the subject at hand, Block Watch. The Amberley Police Department initiated a Block Watch program this past fall. What is Block Watch? Simply, it is system where street neighbors get to know one another and develop street 'smarts' of who belongs on the street and who does not. If there is suspicious activity you call the police to let them investigate. It could be taking periodic walks on your street (good idea for your health) and looking outside your window. It could be identifying a car on the street that does not belong and calling the police to investigate. Block Watch is an important auxiliary function for keeping our community safe. It makes sense. If you'd like more information about Block Watch and creating one for your street, visit the website, http://www.amberleyvillage.org/crimeprevention.cfm or call Officers Mark Roeseler or Tim Schmidtgoessling at 531-2040.

The AV Public Safety Department hold regular meetings to discuss topics related to crime prevention, internet crime, elderly crime, and when and how to report suspicious activity to the police. The AV police will also perform a home security inspection to identify what you are doing well and offer suggestions where they might be weaknesses. This is free service to all AV residents. You can call 531-2040 to request a security inspection.
