I don't even know if they make a carrier like I am wanting, but I figured if anyone would know, one of you would.

Just a bit of history, I have never found a carrier I liked until I began using a wrap and tying my children on.  Because my entire upper body supported the weight of the child, I could wear them for extended periods of time.  Slings put too much weight on one shoulder and would begin to cause cramps.

With my 5 yo I wrapped her to folk dance until she was 2.5 years, and even danced briefly with her in a front wrap when she was 4.  My 2yo wrapped, but not nearly as long as she did.  He isn't as clingy and wants down way too much for a tie on carrier.  We still dance and he would love to join in, but not enough to be tied on.  He wants up and down.  He is WAY to heavy to carry while dancing.  I am looking for some type of carrier that would let me carry him on my hip and get him in and out quickly, but not put all the weight on my one shoulder like a sling.

Does such a carrier exist?  If so what is it called?
thanks,
Wendy in KY

I am also interested in any information on a hip carry.

Thanks,

Hi Wendy,
I think an ellaroo mei hip may be what you're looking for:
http://www.amazon.com/Ellaroo-Mei-Hip-Baby-Carrier/dp/B000CQUPD4/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1288138861&sr=1-1
It's still a one-shoulder carrier, but some of the weight is transferred to the waist strap. Also, it's a buckle carrier, so I think it would be a pretty quick in/out kind of carrier.

Thanks so much for the info, Hazel!  Do you have one of these that I could try at a meeting?

Thanks!

Jennifer

Sorry, Jennifer, we don't have any like that. Wish we did, though!

It looks nice, but didn't get very good review on Amazon.  Many said the baby rides very low.  I wonder if it would be better with an older child?

Thanks for the input.  Still researching.  I haven't ruled it out, but want to see if I can find actual reviews from people with kids more in the 2+ range.
