Group by / Aggregations of metrics

Does blueflood support doing a group by using some tag support, for e.g. I have a bunch of Virtual Machines running on a host and I want to group together their number of I/O requests. So every VM Metric could supply the host identifier as a tag and we could group based on this tag.

I found an older thread https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/blueflood-discuss/YD24qnO8aq8 that discusses this problem, but I am not sure if the solution exists.

Hi Dakoo,

Square has created a project to handle the case around server side query. Two teams caught up recently and both want to collaborate further on these two projects (Blueflood and Metrics Query Engine). I'd suggest check out that project as well: https://github.com/square/metrics

At the moment, the team is working on making sure Blueflood can scale up by another 10x in terms of both feature and performance.

The tag support is under consideration.  We might do it in the future.   The suggested solution for your case is to put host identifier as part of the metrics locator. It is not as flexible as metrics tag but since it is not a blocking issue we are focusing more on the scaling related capability for Blueflood.
