I bit the bullet and bought one of these. I had all sorts of ideas to make something, but everything I tried ended up looking like an arts + crafts after school project.

The fitment with speedhut gauges is perfect, I went with individual gauges for oil pressure, water temp, volts, fuel level, tach and speedo. They make combo gauges too if you wanted to fit more instruments in.

The fitment in the dash is great too, no problems or fuss getting it lined up.  AutoZone has good body screws, that are painted black and have nice wide heads.

It even comes with indicators lamps for hi beams and turn signals. You'll want to buy the little silver bezel around the switches from machined speed, or trim yours to fit - the recess for the  on this dash is too small for the stock one.

You'll also swap over the eyeball vent, but that's all there is to it.

I just installed it tonight, but I really like it, and highly recommend it.

Very nice Ben!

Isn’t there another 3d printed one out there that requires you to paint with crackle finish paint?  This one looks perfect right out of the box.

I think it's gotta be an injection molded part, there's none of the tell-tale layers or such like I'd expect on a 3D printed part.

The finish quality is great, and matches the finish of the stock parts really really well.

Ben,
Great report!

I have been impressed with Gilson products since buying their center console panels.

I need to set some time aside to complete some personal projects. Seems like I've gotten more done on FutoFab's 280Z test mule than a 510 recently.

Ben,
When you get to it, can you comment on calibrating the SpeedHut fuel gauge to pair with the 510 sender.

"Eyeball vent". Never heard that before, but it's a perfect description. Gauge pod looks real good.

Ben,
Thanks for the report.
Eyeball vent. I see yours are a little green/gray? You can take a little bathroom cleanser and a tooth brush to those and they will clean up and polish a bit.

Sweet Ben!  Thanks for sharing.

Re vents: Has anyone tried these (or similar) which fit the 510?:

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/vta-499193

I recall someone on this list posted a photo a while ago with similar vent unit swapped from a later year Mustang or similar and also showed the knobs above.  The result was a 'monkey face'.

Besides the monkey face, I like the aspect that one can do away with the antiquated, awkward vent control mechanism as simple finger motions at the vent face allow for full air control.  It also can eliminate more of that ugly chrome (simulated or otherwise) that so many seem to love.

Another comment on the vents.

member on the 510 Realm has produced adapters for both stock and Gilson dashes to allow installation of 370Z or maybe 350 Z vents.

He is not selling them, but providing the 3D printer file for free.

That looks great! Thanks for sharing. Really amazinging all the aftermarket parts we can get now. Almost like the 70s all over again!

The 3d printed one? No thanks. Maybe use it to make a mold.

350Z, if I remember right.  Because of the underdash AC you really can't get at the knobs for the eyeball vents.
They control rod for the vent is still there.  I close them in the winter.

Mine are of the Mustang variety in the SR car. As I recall, had to remove the plastic bridge across the back of the vent aperture in the dash panel for them to fit.  I got nothing against the stock “chrome” eyeball vents, either, provided they are in good shape. Art Brown said to use oven cleaner to remove the green scuzz. Worked OK, but I ended up buying a new pair from Motorsport Auto for Zeke.

As Ted mentioned,

Reproduction eyeball vents are available. They are made for the 240Z but are identical to the 510 units.

I have them in my 510.

Nice catch phrase Ted.   Thanks for info BTW.  Where is the pic of the closed vent?

Also, I did not receive the Kelvin posts.

As you may have determined from my previous rants, I am a chrome hater.  50's bling!  I see that as the American car mfg method to make cheap steel shiny to sell more crappy cars.  Ooohhh!  Shiny!  It served it's purpose six decades ago.

Our beloved Datsuns seemed to use an amazing amount of SS (a better bling) for the time in lieu of chrome.

No need for the bling today unless you're a purist.  Yet it seems 'they' end up swapping engines, suspension, etc. anyway.  <confused-face-emoji>

Wasn't there a drop in fit eyeball vent with a push/pull open closed in the center of it? I am forgetting what car it was from.
