Dear Bluebird List,

Given the recent uptick in Datsun 510 interest (like the “Leno” video and recent article in Sport Car Market) this is the right time to announce that FutoFab will start stocking reproduction steel Datsun 510 body panels this Fall.

I will be traveling to Taiwan to meet with the manufacturer in person the end of next week. Currently in production are tail light panels, which will be our first stocking part. These will be on hand in 8-10 weeks. Prototyping is complete on rocker panels, front fenders & hoods. These will be coming next.

FutoFab’s Fall offerings for the Datsun 510 will include:

Chrome plated front & rear bumpers

Bumper brackets

Front fenders with and w/o side marker holes

Headlight buckets w/retainer rings

Hoods

Hood trim

Fender “eyebrow” trim

Lower grill trim

Front Valance

Quarter panels

Tail Panels

Rear Valance

Tail light trim (retainer & overlay trim)

And 240Z bumpers F&R in both chrome and painted

510 trunk floors and the outer drops are scheduled next for production.

Once all the shipping and import logistics are worked out, we will be announcing retail pricing.

We at FutoFab are extremely excited about our growth and this opportunity to further support the Datsun community.

Dave,

Sure hope you are using some more rust resistant steel than the OEM.

Just keep them out of the salt air, remember our 510s here in the States were shipped over mostly on deck and the Pacific salt spray had already condemed them to a shortened service life.. If you lived in a winter salt belt you could say goodby to your car in 10 years!  Unproected Fe Steel is going to rust, now if you want to triple or better production costs, manufacture them in Stainless, you can expect a 2000.00 fender! Great if intend on keeping your car for 500 years! Just reproduce it all in 316 or better Stanless.. Hell they could burry you in it!  ;)

I bet the primary cost driver is tooling and transport as opposed to raw material (all 510 parts are “low volume” in the big picture).  316 SS is not all that much more costly from a raw material perspective (just a mere 150% more $). That said, 316 can be made to rut too when exposed to chlorides.  If you really want it to last, passivate it and electropolish it….it would look way better than a delorian J  Far too nice to paint!!

I am thrilled that FutoFab is doing this.  I will not complain about any material choice as they are all better than nothing J

Thanks FutoFab & Happy 510ing.

... Well said, my friend!

In my book, ANY newly tooled reproduction 510 body parts are very welcome around here!

Happy 4th of July!

Very cool!
I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. Anything that can be done to keep these shitboxes, whoops I mean fine examples of early Japanese automobile mass production, on the road is awesome in my book.
It really is amazing we have so many still around. Mad ups to Futofab!!

So now this might get just a tad interesting. Eh dave!

Hint
I would refer back to my emails about trying to get a taillight panel from the Australian company which sells them.

Will be a lot more cost effective if someone like this can bring parts
over by the container-load, than the rest of us shipping individually.
Curious to see what the pricing will be. Would be nice to stock up on
some stuff for the future if/when I get some extra cash.

I know that's how guys in New Zealand do it. Wait to fill up a container
with USDM parts, and then ship it all to NZ.

Wow!! This is great. Maybe we can get some Dynacorn-like body repops done as well for a decent price.
Parts have to be better priced than shipping them from Down-Under..

Dave!

Thank you for stepping up to make this happen.

It will take a lot of work and risk of capital and time to stock these parts.  I hope the 510 community is prepared to support your efforts with brisk orders so you get your money back quickly.  I wish you safe travels next week and look forward to your findings!
