If you look at the level of prep and development he puts into these cars, and the talent he has behind the wheel you can understand why he’s got the field covered.

Plus he probably had a hand in half the other cars. That could have its advantages!

True although there was a Lotus on his butt that almost passed him. Definitely fun to watch.

Troy was one excited puppy after the race.

I was wondering the same thing myself.  Looks like the shifter is perhaps further rearward, so maybe not the 200SX unit.

Is there another version?

As far as I can tell, the elite dog box Ermish sells are probably from;

A very fluid drive and Super fast; what displacement does Troy run and what type of horsepower is he getting?  Does he O-ring his heads to keep head gaskets?

Not sure what all he has done. I believe he is running an L18. Rebelled builds all his engines.

So is that an all-new car build?  I don't see that on his website.  I'm assuming it's not a repaint of his normal blue B sedan car.

Looks like a restoration of a historic build.

I believe this is a rebuilt vintage car. Not his normal Blue and Black with new livery. I believe.

He found it online, has been a race car since 1974 and sitting for 25 years.  He did a full restoration on it, added the 50mm Sidedrafts ($6k a set), built motor and other trick stuff.   He said he may sell it, but was telling another guy st the track that it would go for $125-150k.   That’s about right for a fully restored car with history like that one.  Write a check and go vintage racing!  😃

Taken from Troy’s Facebook profile/page. His wife Ashley is on top of almost all his FB updates and marketing.
   She’s a keeper!

Introducing "Penny"
#PL510-176227 She's completed and ready for the Monterey Rolex Reunion. This 510 was issued a log book in 1972 and last competed in 1985. It was then parked in a garage till Troy aquired it in 2010. He finished the car in just under 4 weeks to showcase its beauty and livery this weekend. Its pretty special that Datsun is the marquis for such an honorable event. Come check us and all the rest of the spectacular cars out this weekend at the Monterey Historics. #datsun510 #ermish #ermishracing #builtnotbought #monterey #historics #rolexreunion #troyermishracing #mikuni #racing #sportscar #jdmlegends #petrolicious #dpangt #vintageracing #lagunaseca #racelife #vintagedatsun #troyermish #datsun510partsoutlet #historyinthemaking #breadandbutter #rebello #rebellopower #lseries #notstance #truejdm

$125-150K for a restored 510 race car with real racing history?

I wonder what my '71 Datsun 1200 with SCCA logbooks dating back to 1973 is worth?

The car was driven in C/S at the 1973 ARRC (today's Runoffs) by Corky Bell.

No, but it's 2.35 more than a 510.

While I see the value in a car with pedigree, and understand restoration cost, those prices are unreal.

Here are some pictures of my 71 Datsun 1200 Coupe.
Not actively advertised for sale, but four racecars are really too many.

It can be bought for well under $10K w/spares. Needs the engine gone thru.
Contact me and I will get you more details.

Original logbook photos from 1973.

I raced it at the Runoffs in 07 & 09 as a GTL car.
Photo below was taken at the Watkins Glen SVRA race in 2011.
Last raced 2014 or so.

The PLN #75 was my favorite 510 at RMMR 2018. I understand it has been racing in the eastern US for several years, but I believe this was the first time it has been raced on the west coast.  The car had head gasket/warped head issues on Friday so the head was sent to Rebello for repairs and ultimately made the race on Sunday.  It was also cool to see the ex- Dave Carkhuff 1983 SCCA National Champion #2 510 .  Then there’s Steve Millen signing my poster on this woman’s back…what a weekend!

I was thinking the owner of the PLN 75 has a car dealership on the West Coast and the car has been living there for some time.
Last known trip out to Road Atlanta for a vintage event was from California maybe for the 2010 Mitty?.?. I at one point had the owners name or maybe dealership name.
I love the livery on that car for sure!

The driver listed in the program is John Baldwin, who was the owner in this July/August '97 GRM article.

They've switched it to airdam from the earlier spook. The nose seems so flat by comparison, it looked like he'd rear-ended somebody at first.

Race results show Ermish with a 1:44.8  best lap. It's interesting to see where that puts him in some of the other groups. FWIW, Morton had a 1:41.8 in the Jaffe #46 Z on Saturday.

It had an air dam when PLN raced it in this livery, but I’ve seen period pics of it with a spook and an air dam when it was in the Bob Sharp livery.  Found a pic of it on display at Amelia Island with a spook, so the owner has since changed it.

At RMMR the #75 PLN car shared paddock space with the ex-Carkhuff ’83 SCCA GT4 Nat. Champ #2 510. I see from the RMMR race results that #2 was driven by Richard Baldwin, perhaps John’s son or brother. Interestingly, I found a pic on my HD (not sure where I got it) showing both cars gridding up at Summit Point back in the day.

It looks like John is a second-generation Covington car dealer and Richard is his son.

According to the results of the '71 ARRC at Road Atlanta, John has been into this 510 thing for awhile.

Check out the diff cover in the PLN 510. Looks like they plugged the original oil fill hole and welded in a new one to the right and higher up,  probably to increase gear oil fill capacity.  Cool stuff!

I've been jacking up one side of the 200sx racey car (1981 with an H190 rear axle), then filling up the rear differential until it drips out of the hole. Haven't really paid attention to the quantity going in. It seems to have helped cool the rear diff a little. It used to be very hot after a day of racing, like it would instantly boil off water sprayed onto it (small spray bottle). Now its just hot (no instant steam).

Next up would be a pump and a radiator. Which I have a few of (off some ferrari's at Sears Point, found them in the trash). Put one on the diff and one on the transmission??? Endurance racing is about endurance.

I suppose extra oil can't hurt except maybe add a lttle drag on the ring gear, and so long as it stays in the diff and doesn't get pushed out the breather.  A race car will have a catch can, but with the stock breather I've found  that my R160 is very sensitive to overfill and will push excess oil out the breather if even slightly overfilled. I use a bubble level on the door sill to verify that the car is level before  checking fill level. An extra capacity cover would be the way to go to keep the oil at the proper fill level whilst adding capacity. I have one on the R180 in my SR car.

That's what I've been doing for my trans to account for the low oil filler on certain FS5W71C cases as per Nissan TSB.

Rear Wheel Drive, the way God intended.
If a car is being pulled from the front, doesn't that mean it's being towed?

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.
