Looks like the East Africa Safari car has some "beauty marks."

These both seem to be the real thing rather than scale versions. Not likely that the Safari car will keep its battle scars -- but who knows.

One of the promising aspects is that TSM would have the capability to make a "champions" set with #4 and #46 in the same display, like the BRE team set they did. I've been lobbying for this for years because it would reach the global 510/Bluebird audience and be one helluva tribute. So far, no one's gone along (Ebbro, BRE, etc.) with the idea and now it's in TSM's hands. I've already nagged them but it wouldn't hurt to have other voices in the chorus if anyone's up for a quick note: in...@tsm-model.com

Looks like an expensive year for toy addicts, er, collectors. TSM 1/18 & 1/43, various overpriced Hot Wheels, Ignition Models in Japan has Bluebirds (not Coupes though) joining their Z and Hako assortment. Better clean off a shelf and take out a loan . . .

BRE sent out word today that the TSM 1/18 510s are nearing completion and might be available by late Feb.

Meanwhile, here's a pre-production image of the Ignition Bluebird and a couple of other samples. Like TSM, they work in 1/18 and 1/43 resin, which allows them to make small batches with many variations. They're formerly the model division of HPI, makers of the RC 510 and Z cars. From what I've seen, the work is very nice.

I think the #4 car should keep its battle scars for the model. It's not like rally cars ever stay pretty, they should wear all the songs and punches like badges of honor.

Very timely -- Ignition posted updates today. Can anyone translate the text? There's a reference to BRE.

Google's version anyway:
"
Already 1st color sample of P510 -inch Blue Bird 4 - door sedan " SSS " model in guidance was raised . Wheel selects the 14 inches , reproduce reasonable camber & Lowdown on the rear . It is a simple custom fitted with a front lip spoiler of BRE type"

Wow. .... Can you believe the luck?

The very first 1/18th scale model made for public sale of a Datsun 510, and they chose to model a four door.
That sucks!

For years all I've wanted is for a company to make and sell an un-built kit of a two door 510 that's in 1/12th scale.

Don't need or want 1/18th scale, it's an odd size. but if that's all we can get? ... well.

( Wondering now why they didn't choose to make a model of the 280Z 2+2 first...! )

Keith - The Ignition models are 1/43 and primarily for the Japanese market (like Tomica), so four doors. The new BRE and PLN cars from TSM are 1/18.

Both colors look nice. I need to do a little research to see in what markets and number the 2-door sedans were offered. I realize, too, that I'm probably in the minority because I'm not that crazy about the coupe. I prefer the profile on the 2 and 4 door sedans. The angle of the rear glass matches that of the rear corners better.

Everybody has known the 2 door 510 is cool since the late 60's.  These toy cars assist in bolstering the P510 & PL510 product line value as a whole.  The hotwheels wagons help too.

Seeking the silver lining....

You are aware that in Japan the 4dr sedan outnumbers the 2dr sedan by probably 100 to 1, right? Why wouldn't they model the 4dr first?

And 4drs look better anyway...   :)

Those I might actually have to buy, even at that price. I wouldn't shell out that kind of money for regular BRE cars though, but these are more oddball variants.

Latest from Ignition: two more color-and-wheel options -- plus a 1/43 Coupe in pre-production.

Maybe this is another sign that the Bluebird/510 has "arrived". Add at least a couple more 2-doors from Tomica to this year's releases, and their cars are some of the best for accuracy and detail despite their size.

Need a shopping list to keep track of what may be available in the coming months! It wasn't that long ago that a single release was an event!

If anyone's trying to keep track . . .

Hot Wheels
510 - Cool Classics - March?
510 - Heritage - May?
Wagon - Yellow - out now (somewhere . . .)
BRE Z #46 - The rest of the Redline release is finally due in March but these will sell out to Redline Club members and re-appear on ebay for $$ (BRE got theirs in October and one recently resold for $500+)

TSM
1/18 510 - BRE #46, BRE #85, PLN #75 - sounds like Feb/March
1/43 510 - Baja #247
1/43 BB - Safari #4 (maybe by the end of the year for #247 and #4?)

Ignition
4Dr BB - Silver, orange, red, and white - should be shipping soon
Coupe - No info yet but likely in several color versions by the end of the year

Tomica Limited Vintage
2Dr BB - Yellow, white - July

Latest pix from Japan's Shizuoka Toy Show update the Bluebird/SSS/510 output to 10 1/43 models from Ignition this year -- six 4-doors and 4 Coupes. Small batch runs (about 200 per model version) allow them to make numerous color and detail changes. It also looks like they're moving into 1/12 scale, with a Z among the bigger models. Maybe they'll crank out a 1/12 510 one of these days . . .
