My turn to update Red’s rear suspension and bring it into the …well OK 1980’s.  What do you guys recommend for rear coilovers – namely is adjustable stuff worth it for my street occasional track day car?  I currently have cut Roadster springs so the wheel rate is ~225lbs so I know what spring rate I want.

It’s also time to replace the front dampers – I am running shortened 200SX struts, anyone know offhand what dampers work in these? I’d prefer to order some without removing my struts just to take a look. Front springs are Ground Control 200#/in.

Saturday is the first road trip in “Red 2.0” (Powerland!) and except for the engine, the car is unrecognizable to anyone who has previously seen it.

Adjustable DAMPERS, I mean, not ride height (that’s a given but wanted  to clarify).

Also is there a significant gain for double adjustable vs. single, or is that mainly for being super-competitive (which Red will never be anyway).

Take another look at the 280ZX rear strut mounting. The diameter of the lower mount is at least 4x as strong as the 510 mount. For good cause. Typical Ermish shortcut mounting is not strong enough. Ermish does not drive what he sells. Pinkie used to loosen the rear mounts every day at hillclimbs. Adapting larger mounts or better yet double shear mounting and high grade bolts is a lot of work.
Then what do you have? Easier ride height but screwed up toe? It does change with every height change, a lot. Lower adds rear toe out, How good are you at catching the car? I think the big motor is already pretty exciting at this. You want to look at it or drive it?
Leverage of the mounting location will also change the spring rate to wheel rate by -10%.
Single adjustables are confusing enough, but worthwhile if you want to have an autocross setup and a street setup, at least in the front. The rears are not really accessible. Really you will likely set them and forget them. Getting someone to make you special stuff is worth the money, double do it yourselfs not so much.
Since you asked......
It aint never easy.
