Hello There
I'm sorry for this odd request because it might get to you too urgent but
it's because of the situation of things right now, I'm stuck in London with
family right now, we came down here on family vacation, we were robbed,
worse of it is that bags, cash and cards and our cell phone were stolen at
GUN POINT,and it's hard to get hold of a phone here in London it's such a
crazy experience for us, we need help flying back home, the authorities are
not being 100% supportive but the good thing is we still have our passport
but don't have enough money to get our flight ticket back home, please i
need you to loan us some money, will refund you as soon as we are back home,
i promise.

Folks,

I would ignore this message, it looks like Kerry's email address was hijacked.

Certainly don't give out any financial or other information.

Doesn’t read like something he would write either and why buy tickets now instead of cheaper round trip before leaving?

You have nothing to worry about this is real and you are rest assured of
getting back your money first thing as soon as we are back home home we are
just in tight situation here we promise.
We've been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping the issues at all and our flight leaves in less than 3hrs from now but we're having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let us leave until we settle the bills,I'm freaked out at the moment.

I need a quick loan from you

Thank a lot i owe you

This is most definitely complete BS.

Everyone should ignore these emails.  If someone has Kerry's phone number, give him a call and tell him that his email address has been hijacked.

Don't share any personal information on this list.

Definitely BS

A)     I doubt Kerry knows how to be freaked out much less say he is

B)      I’ve had a problem stranded in a foreign country in the past after a robbery and the embassy definitely has travelers aid for stranded tourists including cash loans.

C)      The syntax and phrasing are consistent with someone in their mid-20s.

D)     When questioned the reason for the loan immediately changed.

E)      Nowhere does he state how he knows anyone in the group.

Folks,

Sorry for the confusion.  My main gmail account (snow....@gmail.com) was hijacked through a connection to our Yahoo photos page (the page that was created to share crew pics).  Google was very good about restoring security, but the account was locked down (no sending messages) for 24 hours, as a security precaution.

Hope to see everyone soon.

Tom,

Thanks for helping to quash that mess.

I learned about the scam an hour or so after it started, but Google locked down my gmail account as a security procedure, so I wasn't able to respond to the flurry of activity (I could read, but not send, after my password was re-set).  As of this morning, I seem to have full privileges, so I'll be using this address, again, as my main point of contact.

The hack apparently came through the Yahoo site that a crew member created a few years ago to share work trip photos.  The site used my name as the password, was associated with a yahoo e-mail address (blueandw...@yahoo.com), and used my personal e-mail as the secondary mail address.  The hacker apparently let google know that he'd forgotten his (my) password, which was then sent to the yahoo account, which he was able to access through the relatively obvious password.  He then logged onto my google account, changed the password (locking me out) and started inviting the hundreds of people in my address book to help alleviate my dire situation in London.

I'm mentioning all of this because once I found out that my gmail account was linked to the photo site, I changed the password to a more secure setting.  The site is still available, but isn't publicly accessible (for the time being).  When I have a chance, I'll see if I can restore a more general password and set up a generic e-mail account to handle password problems.  As far as I know, the original creator of the site is no longer an active member of the PATC, so I'm not sure about the status of thing, anyway (he set up a 3-year account and paid for the "premium" service).  If anyone is interested in being administrator of the photo sharing site, or if you have suggestions for a better option, let me know.
