Exactly what version of Sound Forge do you have? Read the 'Sticky' at the head for the main Sound Forge forum page.
Could you record sound prior to installing the new version of Sound Forge? Are you recoding from a microphone or other sound source and where are they plugged in.

Check your Windows 10 sound/record settings to confirm you have the correct source enabled. ('microphone' for instance) and disable the other items you are not using.. Also check the Win 10 Privacy settings , Win 10 sometimes disables the microphones by default.

Back in Sound Forge, check the Audio device type in "Options> Preferences> Audio" The MS Sound Mapper or the Windows Classic Wave driver are usually trouble free. Confirm the settings in 'Record' tab.

Otherwise, here are the basic instructions for recording in Sound Forge.
"When you are ready to record, 0pen "View> Record Options" and enable 'Transport> Arm' (aka, record ready) to check your record volume and adjust the record levels if needed at the source or interface/soundcard. Initiate recording by selecting 'Transport> Record' (or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+R). To pause recording, select 'Transport> Record' again (or the keyboard shortcut) and the play-head cursor should return the to starting location... Depending on the "Options> Preferences> General" preferences settings and SF version number, Selecting 'Transport> Record' again, will either pause or rewind the the original start position (and overwrite the previous sound data) . To stop recording all together, select 'Stop' in the Transport menu or Transport toolbar.

As I mentioned in my title, I have no sound in Sound Forge 8.0d on my right channel IF you are listening to the audio on speakers. If, however, you plug in the headphones into the front of my Focusrite LE sound card, the sound is there. The sound meters in Sound Forge does show the wave files and the volume of the playback even though you cannot hear it in the speakers. I am working on a Vegas project and making copies of the wave files for editing in Sound Forge. I am using Vegas 7.0d.

Thank you for the catch. One other thing I tried, opening a DVX100a 60i avi file directly into Sound Forge that I had captured last year using Vegas as my capture program. Again, the sound shows up in the right channel on Sound Forge but can only be heard through the headphones.

Both sets of waveforms show up in Sound Forge and I can jump between them or listen to them together or individually on the headphones. I can reverse channels, still hear either/or on the headphones but the right channel can only be heard through the headphones.

Seems to me like if you see both left and right channels in Soundforge it ought to play. Since you can hear it fine in the headphones it sounds more like a soundcard routing or soundforge channel routing issue.

When using Sound Forge and playing back files I always get a small click/pop on play start. Sometimes it seems part of the audio is skipped too, especially at start of the file. It doesn't happen when playing with loop mode when the file starts over. And with Nuendo I never have any problems, only Sound Forge (version 9.0e) and when starting playback, no matter where in the timeline.

Also, this happens with both my quad core desktop and dual core laptop, both with Windows XP SP3. I also remember the same thing occurred with Multiface (1st edition) I have in my studio, when I used it with PCI-card, the same quad core desktop and Sound Forge.

The drivers and firmware are current. I've tried fooling around with different driver options in Sound Forge, even changed some buffer options but it doesn't help or maybe I just don't know the correct combination.

This problem is a minor nuisance when playing back whole songs but when checking out small files like sound effects it is highly annoying as I can't really be sure whether the click is in the file or not. Skipping parts of audio makes it even worse.

Even more disconcerting, jumping around in a long file using a mouse clicks (especially at 96kHz) will occasionally produce a brief burst of digital noise - like playing back 'non-audio' data. It is not in the RME drivers because it appears on the playback meters within SF. Seems like disc I/O screws up - like using the wrong buffer. Me and my DAW builder have not been able to track this down so far.

It seems Sound Forge 10 has indeed solved this problem! Not perfectly, though. Using ASIO drivers creates a weird effet - when stopping playback, SF seems to repeat some buffer creating a delayed pattern, like a last beat of the bar is repeated. Luckily, using MME drivers this doesn't happen at all and the clicks/pops are gone.

Be aware of the upgrade offer though - VAT gets added to the price in the last pages of transaction (EU VAT for me, living in Finland) and there's no special field to insert EU VAT number of your company to get rid of this extra cost. I kind of wonder where the EU VAT cost really goes when billed by US based company. I'm guessing to Sony's pocket. Consumer service form is full of annoying little questions like version numbers and such which are not related to purchase details at all. I won't even bother...

It seems after Sony purchased Sound Forge, the software has been getting buggier, updates are not that common, new versions cost more and add less interesting features - topped with cumbersome customer service. I just hope they won't ruin this once great software in the long run...

I have also had a problem with the Asio drivers on SF Audio Studio 9.0d on another i7 DAW which is used for broadcast purposes, and has a couple of HDSPe cards. On entering record or playback, an exception occurs and the program quits. Doesn't do it with WDM drivers (but this is not an acceptable solution). SFAS9 is in constant use on my P4 Centrino laptop (with FF400) and I basically regard it as bulletproof (also used for broadcast purposes) in that environment. Not so on the i7 obviously ...

SF should be no problem on multi processors as it was dual processor capable back like version 5. But I think former SF resources have been progressively drained to support other projects like Vegas and ACID. Also subject to creeping featurism ... still haven't worked out whether event based editing is their response to WaveLab montage.

This is easy to fix in soundforge and I presume other Sony software.
You are for sure using the Windows Classic Waves driver in forge in order to support other sample rates as ASIO would play perfectly.

Go to the Audio settings for soundforge. In SF10 its Preferences/Audio.
Click on advanced tab and change the buffer size to around 1024.
This buffers the first 1024 bytes before playing and works perfectly - no pause, no clicks.

The list of features missing from Pro MAC vs Pro 10 is quite extensive: no batch editing, no key command assigning, no crop ability, no surround output, no auto-regioning, no video support, and even a lack of editable toolbars. I have heard this app compared it to an Alpha version of software as opposed to release. I have also read about the app crashing frequently, which I also experienced. One issue I had was I brought in a 96/24 .wav, saved it as 44/16 and then Sound Forge would not play it, followed by multiple crashes. I got a consistent crash on trying to play other files saved in the same manner even on reloading the entire app and file(s). Oddly, the same task works just fine in OS X running Sound Forge Pro 10 through Windows 7 from Parallels Desktop.

I also noticed mono tracks are only played through one speaker which is not terribly ideal or expected. In addition I was able to get a consistent crash when simply dragging a stereo wav from Finder into waveform view on top of a mono wav (normal function I have done many times in Sound Forge Pro 10). Upon reopening my progress was oddly saved.

I would have liked this review to be a bit more in depth and cover some more of the features, but anything I want to try either cannot be done in this app, or it simply crashes. As I have spent more time in Pro MAC the more unstable it seems to have become, to the point of some files consistently crashing the app when imported, whereas others of the same type, and sample rates, created at roughly the same time on the same recording device work just fine.

Like many OS X users, I had high hopes for Sound Forge Pro MAC and have been seriously let down. The surprising number of features this app does not have is rather unfortunate and does a disservice to Sound Forge as a brand. Personally I will keep updating my review copy from Sony Creative Software and hope missing features get added back in. I cannot however recommend Sound Forge Pro MAC to even an amateur or beginner working with sound. There are way cheaper and more stable options for OS X and even the possibility of simply using Sound Forge Pro 10 on a separate partition or emulated. Sound Forge Pro 10 is a wonderful application with a vast number of professional users, perhaps one day Sound Forge Pro MAC will catch up and be a viable tool in their workflow. Unfortunately that day is not here yet.

After 15mins of trying SF-Mac, it did let me down. I encountered same issues as the reviewer, Jack Menhorn, did. Lack of customizable MP3 export option, frequently crash while import/save in different sampling rate/bit depth. I also encountered a few more issues those seriously effect my editing workflow;

I have SF 10 Pro. I t was working great but just recently it has gone the way of the trash can. It crashes all the time. It will not even open up a sound file. Great software when you are in the business eh? Junk.

Scripts version? 1Posted on: January 10, , 2022
Sound Forge 15 ScriptsThis page contains JAWS scripts for Magix Sound Forge pro, version 15, as well as scripts for the less espensive Audio Studio 15.The installer below will install both scripts, and works with 32 bit, as well as 64-bit systems. If you already own an authorization for previous Sound Forge scripts from The Snowman, then you are already licensed to use these scripts, and your current authorization file will suffice. If you are a new user, you can purchase a license by sending $30.00, including your JAWS serial number to the following PayPal address:sno...@SnowManRadio.comWe will process your order when the payPal notification comes through. Remember to include your JAWS serial number, and your e-mail address, cince PayPal does not pass that information along. If you have questions, or want to confirm we know about your order, contact...@SnowManRadio.comDownloadingIf you have not already subscribed, and have not yet purchased an authorization, you can download a demo authorization below. The demo is fully functional, but requires a jaws restart every ten minutes in order to continue using the scripts.
Do not download this if you have already purchased an authorization.
Place this file in the user-specific settings area of jaws.Download Temporary Authorization File HereDownloadTo obtain The actual scripts for Sound Forge pro, and AudioStudio 15, click here:Be sure to read the Optimizations section below.Save and run this installer:Sound Forge pro and AudioStudio 15 Jaws Scripts, version 1OptimizationsVersion 1 includes a new flag in the forge150.ini file which indicates which sound forge key actually performs the pause function. Magix actually changed that from enter, to control+f12, and they might change it back. So, if your version of sound forge does not have that change, you would want to set that flag to 0. It is 1 by default upon installation, since that is what Majix is shipping at the time of this writing. The folloinw adjustments are recommended, for Audio Studio as well as Sound forge Pro.When you open Sound Forge 15 for the first time, an interactive tutorial will be presented, and this is largely inaccessible. You can recognize this condition from the fact that none of the menus will activate. You can view portions of the tutorial with the touch cursor. But, to dismiss it entirely, just press alt+f4, and focus should land back in the usual MDI window. To prevent that from coming up each time your start the program, go to the help menu, and open the interactive tutorial item. There, you will find a checkbox to uncheck, which will disable that startup feature.in the view menu, toolBars, uncheck all the toolBars, and amek sure Show ToolTips is checked. In the options menu, general tab, it is usually best to uncheck the item about using net notify to stay informed about updates, as this often puts up a notice that barges into your usual work flowand causes problems. Those items in the general tab may be double speaking for now. That will be improved in time.the following are also recommended:

  • Options menu, Time Display submenu, Passive updates, must be checked.
  • Options menu, video submenu, Passive Updates, must also be checked
  • Options menu, Data Window, uncheck all items except status. You can only uncheck one item at a time, and thus have to open that dialog once for each item.
  • Once the data window options are set, be sure to set that configuration as the default, so it will apply to new sound windows. You can do that in the dialog itself.
We originally had some problems with the channel meters not being visible as text. Magix has added a new channel meter, which is called Channel Meter V2. But, the old channel meter is the text version, and is intended to be the default. If you can not see the level meters, as read by the f11 and f12 keys, go to the options menu, channel meters, and make sure the v2 version is not checked, but the other one is checked. Then, go to the view menu, and make sure channel meters are enabled. The followin items in file forge150.ini
  • Windows10=0 - set this to 1 if you wish to use jaws 16 or earlier in windows 10.
  • RecordStatus - The beeper that indicates recording is in progress seems to cause performance problems in windows 10. AS of version 4, this is set to 0 by default. Set it to 1 if you want to hear the little beep when recording starts.
If you make a shortcut on the Desktop to start Sound forge, choose to run the program maximized.Because we had problems with automatic maximization logic in previous versions, that logic is still disabled. Once you get Sound forge maximized, it should stay that way. but, if you have problems, make sure that is the case manually.
Tap the alt key, and check both the document and system menus, to make sure the windows are maximized. Initial SetupInstalling Sound Forge can be a little tricky, as the Magix installers are implemented using a framework that is less screen reader friendly. In particular, the JAWS cursor can often not see any sensible text. But, do remember, that the JAWS touch cursor is your friend, and will let you look at more objects than you would see simply using the tab key.To activate the touch cursor, press shift+the PCCursor key. Then you can use left and right arrow to explore the objects. To return to normal mode, double tap the PC cursor key.The primary thing you need to do, once getting Sound Forge 15 installed, is setup the sound system. To do that, go to the options menu, and up arrow to Preferences, and press enter. This is a multiTab dialog, so go to the audio tab.Pick a sound system, which may take a little trial and error on your part to see which works best for you.If your playback works, but is sluggish, then choosing a different sound system may help. The choices offered there will depend on the sound card you want to use.Once that is selected, there are two subTabs, one for input and one for output. use the arro keys to select the one you want to work on first, and then press tab to go to the list of channels. In this list, up and down arrow will move through the channels. A stereo file, for example, would have two channels, so channels 1 and 2 are the left and right respectively. Each line contains the channel number, and the sound card output that will go to. Take the jaws cursor to that line, and left click on the sound card name for that channel. That will bring up a context menu that lets you alter that selection. Use the up and down arrow to choose the desired output, and Press enter when finished.Record OptionsYou can also taylor the way Sound Forge records, via the Record Options dialog, which you can activate via the view menu. This seems to look identical to previous versions. It is necessary to use the jaws cursor in this dialog, to explore, and to click on things you want to change.Once you left click on the field you want to change, and be sure to click on the value part of the field, rather than just the name of the field, activate the pc cursor, and use up and down arrow to set the value, and enter to finalize your change.Nost things will work fine at their defaults.Confirming InstallationOnce all files are installed, focus in sound forge 15, and press insert+q. Jaws should say: "Scripts version 15.0.x, for Sound Forge 15".If it says that Default Settings are loaded, then the files have not been copied, and the installation was not complete. IF that happens, contact the Snowman.Once installed and reporting the correct version, you can Use insert+h to learn about the various hot keys.Check out the Articles section below to learn about the various editing modes.ArticlesThese articles were written for SF11, but are presently believe to apply equally to later versions, and discuss various aspects of operating Sound Forge.Skimming Audio and Selection methodsMultiTrack Overdubbing
