Raymond, who maintains the Jargon File, an online lexicon of hacker slang."[3][4]

Software protection dongles are typically used to help prevent unauthorized use and copying of certain forms of software. Initially using ports such as the serial port or parallel port, most are now in USB format.

I am the absolutely wrong person to be asking this. I just barely got Zigbee2mqtt working in the past two days. The only reason I knew where to see the version number is because I flashed the upgrade to my Sonoff dongle.

They all ship with older firmware mentioned in those two threads, thus your dongle will for sure not have the latest firmware out-of-the-box. If want newer firmware then need to flash community firmware.

What about those users who buy an upgrade to C12 (from an older version) ?
Do they find themselves in the above mentioned situation?
In other words:
can anyone, here in the forum, confirm that once you have bought just the upgrade to C12 you are still able, with your dongle, to fully run the older Cubase stuff?

Too bad that the company has not also decided to provide a way to transfer the old licenses to the new servers and integrate them into the new license system, while providing software drivers capable of emulating, in the eyes of the old products (obviously uneditable), the presence of dongles.
Surely it would have been a more demanding (and expensive) choice for the company but perhaps, by one of the most prestigious DAW producers, it was legitimate to expect it (or, at least, to hope for it).

Yes you can, but you have to use the USB-eLicenser (which eventually, sooner or later in the future, will cease to work).
Steinberg appears to have no intention of transferring old licenses from the local USB dongles to the new centralized License System.

It's strange, that dongle does not show the former version number and does not react on pushing the clear button. I bought it in 2017 from Victrons Amazon-Shop. Do I still have warranty on the dongle?

I haven't used my Avid in a while. I have this dongle and have updated my computer to El Capitan. MC 5.5 doesn't work with El Capitan and MC 8 doesn't work with this dongle. Is there an AVID version that works with this dongle and El Capitan?

Also, it depends on the part # on your dongle. Could you email me directly the system ID and dongle serial # on the tag or if you cant, insert the dongle and using the dongler mansger - do whats called a dongle dump and send me the text file along with the information on your MC version OS etc...

Today my headset randomly decided to brick itself. It was connected via wireless mode with the dongle but couldn't mute the mic, switch to wired, also had no overall "control" to say over the headset. I did a shutdown by holding the mic mute button down and that seemed to fix half the issues.

So now I am able to use the headset completely fine but ONLY in wired mode. When I go to icue to pair the dongle shows up but nothing ever happens after I click pair. I've tried downloading old icue firmware and then the dongle doesn't even show in the software. My buddy had a similar issue with his Virtuoso and downloading an older firmware and forcing it to update it solved his issues. However, I can not find a download for any older or even the latest dongle firmware.

If you are encountering the issue of only your VIRTUOSO/dongle being on firmware 5.x.xx, but not its companion (ex. VIRTUOSO receiver is on 5.5.102, VIRTUOSO headset is on 0.17.149), PLEASE create a ticket HERE.

My dongle flashes red and then stays white for long until it turns off
I tried to restart them and by turning them ON/OFF they work for few seconds but the headsets turns off again and the dongle keeps connected for a while until it turns off as well

Hello, my headset has firmware v.0.17.149 and my dongle is v.0.16.80. Is there anyway I can get the dongle firmware update? Since iCUE 4 I've had problems with my headset. They were crystal clear and now theres a subtle static that becomes more noticeable with people talking. Hoping a firmware update can help. I see others on 5.x.x and I don't even have 1.x.x ?

I've had two different virtuosos and the same problem happened when I updated a firmware. The dongle firmware version is 5.5.102 and the Virtuoso's is 0.17.149. I'm not sure which the previous version is, but I downloaded iCUE again in early December if that helps. I'd really appreciate some help. Thank you for the info and help!

We are having a Dell T-105 Server and installed Windows-XP Professional Operating system . This server is not having a parallel port . But , as we are having a parallel port Dongle, we added a parallel port card on PCI slot of the server. But as the dongle is placed on a parallel port and as soon as we start the software installation process , the system goes in a continuous loop of rebooting. ( Please not that parallel port is working fine as it is checked with parallel port printer. )And we are not able to proceed further for software product installation.How to make dongle and Server compatible with each other .

We have been in contact with Cadence Support but we were told that , either PC with in built parallel port is to be used or convert the existing parallel port dongle to the USB one....& Parallel port card that too inserted in PCI slot wont work....

Any help in this regard will be appreciated....

When I installed my ORCAD on a Windows 10 computer a while back, every time I run the Cadence License Server Configuration (when I swap USB dongle/license... because our company has a few), I always get this message at the very last step:

"Cadence License Server Configuration utility has detected that it needs to install the FLEXid 9 dongle driver on your system. Please make sure to connect your FLEXid USB dongle to an available USB port. The driver installation process may take a few minutes. Click OK to continue or Cancel to terminate the Cadence License Server Configuration utility"

I always click "OK" and it does its thing... long wait... and it gives the message below (which I always ignore because at the end the license/dongle still work as intended and the software is usable).

"- Unable to restart Cadence License Server with the new license file "..... ". Failed to install FLEXid dongle driver. Failed to update your CDS_LIC_FILE license path with the new license server setting "....".

Fast forward... June 2020, I installed the same software on a new computer I recently assembled running on the latest Windows 10 update. I went through the above License Server configuration process and when it got to the step where it says that the FLEXid 9 dongle driver needs to be installed, I clicked "OK" as usual. However this time after just a few seconds of clicking "OK", the system rebooted. This process is repeatable and the system will just reboot at this step on the process. The FLEXID information is blank on the System Settings at LMTOOLS which gives me the impression that the dongle is not installed and the information from it could not be retrieved.
