Announcing Caterva2 0.2
=======================

This is Caterva2, a high-performance storage and communication system for
on-demand access to Blosc2 data repositories.

This release includes many fixes and updates, although the main additions are
(i) native support for HDF5 publisher roots, and (ii) browsing enhancements
with tomography display support in the web client. The former addition allows
publishing an HDF5 file as a root, with its hierarchy, datasets and attributes
efficiently mapped to Blosc2 on-the-fly (no need to use `cat2import` as
previously); support for other storage formats can be added to the publisher.
The latter addition allows detecting 3D datasets tagged with a `tomography`
content type attribute, so that the web client shows a "Display" tab that
allows viewing the stacked images; this relies on a plugin model for custom
visualization of any content type.

## What is it?

Caterva2 is a distributed system written in Python meant for sharing Blosc2
datasets among different hosts by using a publish–subscribe messaging pattern
(see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Publish–subscribe_pattern). Here,
publishers categorize datasets into root groups that are announced to the
broker and propagated to subscribers.

Subscribers can access datasets of publishers on demand on behalf of clients,
and cache them locally. This could be particularly useful for accessing remote
datasets and sharing them within a local network, thereby optimizing
communication and storage resources within work groups.

Caterva2 is distributed using the AGPL license, see
https://github.com/Blosc/Caterva2/blob/main/LICENSE.txt
for details.
