Problem linking repeater

All - I just got my first DSTAR radio - an ID-31A - and am enjoying learning the new mode. I have a question though about linking/unlinking on the repeater. I can successfully unlink the reflector using the UR="       U" command, but none of the linking commands (UR=REF024BL, K9IU  LX, etc) seem to work for me -- the repeater stays unlinked until it automatically reconnects a few minutes later. I have the RPT1/RPT2/MY set up correctly (to K9IU    B and K9IU   G, KC8PTE respectively). Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

My first contact on the repeater/reflector was someone in Chicago - fun!
