I went for a hike yesterday afternoon down in hoosier national forest. Took the Sycamore loop from the fire tower southeast of lake monroe. This is right at the intersection of Monroe, Brown, and Jackson counties. Had my HT with me
Someone from Michigan came in on the reflector just as I was topping a ridge on the north side of the loop. Although I R2D2'd a bit, we were able to hold a short QSO. I then flipped to the C module (2m) and got a perfect copy on an echo test from that location.
I was about 13 nmi away from the repeater site at the time, in a dense forest with lots of hills. 5w out.
