Bloomberg played a Linhill Celtic team that entered the game boasting the highest points tally and the best defence in the league. A competent ref and the cool weather conditions ensured both teams would come out of the fixture having enjoyed a well contested competitive game.
Bloomberg lined-up in a 4-5-1 formation.

Bloomberg, chasing their first league victory of the season started off brightly with the team’s commitment shining though as they won the majority of the 50’s-50’s. Our backline settled well after an early wave of defending Linhill’s attacks. The southern suburb team resorted mainly to crosses and was able to create a couple of decent goal scoring opportunities. The team’s entered the half time break with a deserved 0-0 score-line. The second half kicked off with much of the same as the team completed passes with regular frequency while maintaining their intensive levels of commitment and concentration. 10 Minutes into the second half Bloomberg substituted German midfield Fritz Fiethen for striker Thabang Letele better known as Castro and the game plan shifted from 4-5-1 to a more attacking 4-4-2.

Shaun Botha dropped off into a shadow striker role and was effective in coming deep to get the ball and then holding up play allowing us to control possession in our opponents half. Our new strike partnership started to show signs off an understanding developing with Shaun finding a pocket of space between midfield and defence to play a defence splitting through ball to Castro who had beaten the offside trap with a well timed run. Our persistence paid off when our strike pairing combined again this time Castro played a precise through ball to the path of Shaun Botha who delicately placed the ball past the on-rushing keeper to notch his 3rd goal of the season. The back 5 supported by a hard working midfield needed to dig deep if they were to come home with maximum points. A blinding save from Carsten Fassbach in goals helped preserve a one nil lead. Itai filled in for Freddie who was suffering from cramp and Felix Cambiasso took one for the team with an illegal block that earned him his second yellow card and consequently prevented a potential goal scoring opportunity at a crucial stage of the match. First John and then Federico filled in for the red-carded Felix. A total team effort in defence and offence played a vital role in helping the team grind out the remaining minutes off the game and seal a deserved 1-0 win.
Hard work and a great team ethic in the second half provided a platform for every single player to shine in a well deserved win for Bloomberg Celtic.
