Having followed the woman in the yellow coat to her home, the young woman tries to decide if she should take the final step, unsure as to whether she even wants to make contact with her mother. Instead, she gives herself a little time to think it over, and as she goes about her usual business, little things remind her of her past, memories flooding back of days spent with (and waiting for) her mother. Very soon, you wonder whether the poor woman will cope with the sudden weight of her unfortunate past.
The mother is a woman whose image is slowly constructed in her absence, the reader (through Thrse) receiving glimpses of a bohemian lifestyle. We infer days of men, dancing and neglect, even if the true woman remains frustratingly vague and absent.
Thrse is far from the only one living in the past, though, and many of the other handful of characters in the novel share her inability to build a solid existence. Her latest job involves looking after a young girl in the afternoons, employed by a couple with little interest in their daughter:

Funny, I had a vintage shelf full of collectibles in my powder room and one night in the dark a guest bumped into the shelf and several things were broken so sadly I took it down. You should turn on lights! LOL!

OMGoodness, my heart just skipped a beat! This room is exquisite! I am SO tired of white everything, I am a girl who loves my colors. The wall treatment is gorgeous! I wish I knew someone who could do this, I thought it was wallpaper and there is no way my hubby will do wallpaper again. The candle holders on the sink are beautiful, EVERYTHING is beautiful. The Little Jewel jewelry store on Pearl Street was robbed Tuesday afternoon after multiple men entered the store and stole jewelry, according to Boulder police.According to co-owner Dane Brown, at approximately 1:20 p.m. Tuesday, a female employee was working alone when a man entered the store who did not speak much English and asked to look at the wedding bands. Brown said the man was on the phone when a couple of minutes later three other men entered the store and began smashing and stealing jewelry while one of the suspects grabbed the employee and covered her mouth.
