Any way to handle this?. I sent in an appeal, I also disagreed with the decision. This is like the 5th time this has happened. I said something that someone did not like. So they told me to enjoy the 30 days. Next thing you know I actually got 30 days. This is nuts. How can Facebook allow people to get away with this?. I reported the middle finger emoji and him calling me an idiot and Facebook responded by saying it was ok. WTF?.

As it turns out, the neighbors hadn’t been the judgmental ones — I was. I put up the skeleton as a middle finger to suburbia, but it ultimately helped me realize I wasn’t living in a boring place, full of boring people. As we grow older, we (mostly) drop the need to signal “I’m different” with purple hair dye or edgy fashion, but that doesn’t mean we’ve gotten completely dull — and putting up strange Halloween decorations in the lawn is a great way to spark conversation. It turns out that a lot of suburbanites are pretty weird, and they’re happy to show off those lovable quirks when they’re talking to the person who has a 12-foot-tall skeleton in her front yard. Some of my neighbors were even fellow ex-New Yorkers who admitted the period of adjustment to a small, quiet town felt like a years-long grief process. I watched them breathe sighs of relief when they admitted how much they still missed the city. Clearly, it wasn’t something they talked about often.
Sib. 6.x: Piano fingering: notating two fingers on one note
Posted by Mark Isaacs - 10 Aug 01:37AM (edited 10 Aug 01:40AM) Hide picture I like the big fat sound I get on the piano when striking an isolated single note with TWO fingers simultaneously. I squeeze my index and middle fingers (fingers 2 & 3 in piano nomenclature) into what is effectively one double-sized, very heavy and fat finger. This produces a stridency of tone not achievable otherwise, like a very heavy bell tolling, or a barking French Horn.
I can't find any precedents as to how to notate this kind of fingering, let alone achieve that notation in Sibelius.
The opposite case is standardised by a bracket i.e playing two notes with one finger (usually the thumb). And a dash or slur is used to show a SLIDE from one finger to the other on a single note, to change the hand position. As I say, I want to somehow indicate ONE note, played SIMULTANEOUSLY with TWO fingers.
Any ideas?

I've just been experimenting and fail to achieve a different tone by using 2 fingers on a single piano key. Maybe this works on a concert grand, but certainly not on my Roland electric. Posted by Mark Isaacs - 10 Aug 09:39PM (edited 10 Aug 09:43PM) Hide picture Drummers use thicker drumsticks to get a different tone, it's not just how hard you hit. Yep, it works. Not a routine way to play the piano, but for an isolated climactic note it can be useful if you really care about tone as well as volume. I'm sure I am not the only pianist using non-standard techniques sometimes.
I'll probably put in fingering text that says either "2+3", "2/3" or "2&3" and provide an explanatory note.

Posted by Laurence Payne - 10 Aug 11:29PM Hide picture All the finger can impart to a piano key is velocity at the point of escapement. However, hand and arm 'weight' IS a thing in piano playing. I'll figure it out one day :-) Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 6.x: Piano fingering: notating two fingers on one note
Posted by Mark Isaacs - 11 Aug 03:43AM (edited 11 Aug 04:18AM) Hide picture Interesting comment Laurence.
It's true that the hammer is a fixed weight, so all that can change at that end is its velocity in travelling toward the string(s).
But at the other end, a human strikes the key and it translates, via the action mechanism, into velocity.
Resultant hammer velocities are dependent, at least in part, upon the weight applied to the key.
Also, the size of the finger plays its part through psychological self-preservation. Even if I *could* in theory produce the loudest sound possible with my little finger (pinkie), I won't have the guts to do it, as I instinctively know I might break it or injure it in the process, it's just not bullish enough for that stuff. A "double finger" allows me to confidently (safely and securely!) apply more force than any single finger, which surely translates into more hammer velocity at the other end of the action than is otherwise achievable. Similarly the wrist, arm, shoulders, back and all the rest of the physiognomy have their role in attenuating force at the fingertips, which (yes) translates into hammer velocity only.
So though the output (hammer movement) is only graded by velocity, it is without doubt that weight, and which bits of the body and muscle sets are involved, and God knows what else, all play their part as "input" in the triggering of those different velocities starting at the key and then through the action.
Dare I say you slipped into a logical fallacy? The fact that there is only one possible "class" of output, does not intrinsically allow us to draw the conclusion that there is only one "class" of input! I don't know the exact kinetics of it, but I'd guess that the velocity that the hammer strikes the string(s) is mediated by both the speed AND the weight of that which is striking the keys. So two classes of input. Or even, three, as "position" might be involved (i.e hitting edge of key, centre, back) although my knowledge of the mechanics of levers may not be sound enough to say this for sure, and if I am striking a different part of the key it's usually not for sound, but for hand position (because of the notes I am coming from and those I have to subsequently get to). Another input might be the "curve" of finger attack, you can kind of "stroke" or "brush" the keys in a more elliptical manner rather than striking them straight down, and this will translate into different hammer velocities and then into different volumes and tone colours in the sound (the latter through activation of varying harmonics in the strings).
It's definitely a kind of boxing match, though.

Posted by Adrian Drover - 11 Aug 05:59AM Hide picture I would never have considered that hitting a piano key could be so involved. Off topic, try this:
Place your hand flat down on the table and tuck your middle finger tightly underneath. Now, in turn, lift your thumb, forefinger, pinkie. Now try and lift your ring finger. Back to top Allthreads Re: Sib. 6.x: Piano fingering: notating two fingers on one note
