Obesity is undoubtedly the disease that can be termed as the by-
product of our technological advancements, with almost 60% of
Americans being either overweight or obese.
What is obesity?
Obesity is used to describe the health condition when a person’s
weight significantly exceeds the prescribed ideal weight. To put it
even more simply, it is just too much of body fat and no six pack abs.
This higher body fat exposes you to unwanted health risks like high
blood cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
And, obese people generally have been observed to have lower activity
levels.
Fight Obesity
The basic principle of fighting obesity is burning more calories than
you eat. Make it a two-pronged approach, watch out what you eat and
burn it up too. Before you embark on a routine, make sure to take
advice of your doctor or dietician. The exercise you choose should be
suited to your body and your lifestyle. It is not necessary to work
out in a gym to get those six pack abs; you can get them in the
comfort of your own home by the means of some simple home workouts.
Some good home workout options include walking, jogging, squats, light
weight training, and dancing. A crunch works on your abdominal muscles
and is the best exercise to lose belly fat. Choose the exercise you
like the most and weave it into your lifestyle. You should also modify
your eating pattern and choose your food wisely. Try eating regular
meals without skipping them. A healthy meal should consist of the
following three components – fibrous carbohydrates, lean proteins and
fats.
Prevent Obesity
If you are not overweight or obese right now, make it a mission to
never fall into that category. You will realize it is much easier to
keep obesity at bay than to lose it. It is a good idea to start
tracking your calories for a week. This will give you a very good idea
of the foods you should avoid and the ones whose consumption you can
increase. Do not snack on junk food, always keep healthier snacking
options handy. Stay active and exercise regularly.
For any weight loss routine, you should have patience. Do not expect
quick results; they might do you more harm than good.
