stable 0.7.1: list categories

I would like to include a list of the categories of my blog (like the
one of the sidebar on blogofile.com), but i can't figure out how to do
this. Any help is much appreciated.

The blogofile.com site source is on github, so you could take a look
at it for ideas. I see the bit of Mako that generates the categories
list is at https://github.com/EnigmaCurry/blogofile.com/blob/master/_templates/sidebar.mako#L45
