I received the Android 12 update today on my phone, and it looks like boldbeast does not like it at all. It simply won't start, and trying to open it will only display the BB logo and it will stay stuck there. Impossible to get in the app.
As a side note, CubeACR does work, albeit not on connections involving Bluetooth. Any time a Bluetooth connection is involved, only my side of the conversation is recorded. CubeACR support says that's just the way it is, and nothing can be done to make Bluetooth/Android 12 recording work correctly.
Thank to nadieaqui for telling us how he got a way to record calls. I did the same and I'm back on track. The sound quality isn't as good as when I was on Android 8, Galaxy S8, Boldbeast, unrooted but it's good enough to record calls at work and avoid taking notes manually.
BoldBeast paid, Pixel 5a5g, Magisk 23 rooted. Updated from A11 to A12 today, and BB fails to run; black screen with logo, just freezes there. Uninstalled/reinstalled, cleared cache and storage, I am prompted to select the install options, permissions, etc, and when it gets to the point it should run, it fails in the same fashion.
I am hoping beyond hope this gets fixed, hell Ill pay again, seriously, whatever it takes. Feels like a hole in my phone life, I really love BB and have come to rely on its solid performance over the years. This is a real tangible loss, and I hope the dev is doing well, staying healthy, and continues to support BB. So many miss this as badly as I do, if its a matter of money, PLEASE just ask, most of us would pay again if it gets us to a working BB again.
Fill us in and let us know if you're OK, maybe locked down with this damned Covid stuff, or whatever, maybe just busy with life. If we don't know how we can help get this back on track, we can't help!
With all our posts, registering our displeasure, is BB aware of the Android 12 incompatible with the app? They are not telling us anything. We haven't received any response from them since November, 2021. They should address this quickly for us. They should know that most of us have paid.
Ditto on a Magisk 24.1-rooted Pixel 6 Pro under Android 12 version SQ1D.220105.007 (January 2022). After Granting post-installation permissions, I get either a black screen OR a green claw in blue circle on black ground -- and the app does nothing. I [re]installed version 14.9 (from the BB website) twice, once via ADB from my PC, once solely within the device (never touched the Google Play version). No joy ... The dev has been very conscientious about fixes and solutions, so I do hope dev is still developing this app. If not, perhaps dev would consider releasing the code so that we can debug it. I recognize that testing on every new device can become a costly affair, and if that is the case, please let us know. Many thanks for a great app all these years.
P.S. Installed Skvalex v3.5.0 ("Call Recorder") on this phone. Works flawlessly. Has all the features of BoldBeast that I used & valued. DL from the skvalex website, not the Play Store. Costs $10 for all features.
I have paid for this software for several devices. However, those upgraded to Android 12 cannot load the application anymore.
Please make an update to support Android 12 or, at least, tell us you will not support this app anymore so we can know we lost that money and we have to go find a replacement as Cube. However, I would expect a serious developer to support their product for at least 5-10years.
Galaxy S10. After Android 12 BB stopped working. I tried downloading apk from BB site as in one discussion they had written about it. But it did not work. More than a month has passed, I have been checking the site for solution but to no avail. I have the pro version for more than 5 years.
Are there any call recording (legal where I am) apps that work with graphene? I've tried cube acr as well as the call recorder app in f-droid and neither record audio. Those of you who have needed this functionality, which apps have worked for you. I'm on a pixel 6.
I used VOIP app Acrobits Groundwire on ios for years until very recently, when I did not want to be tracked by the cell provider. I used it on open wifi connections (via a personal VPN) to make calls. It has a lot of features, including automatic recording (optionally, with each party on their own channel) which I used and really liked. I am shortly going to be determining how/if it will run on GrapheneOS as it is available for Android. My guess is "not totally" as it very likely relies on Google's push service, however it may still work with polling and for outgoing calls. (I do not intend to install Play services at this time.)
VOIP providers like voip.ms can be configured to automatically record (and transcribe) calls, which eliminates the need for on-device recording. In my case, I have used provider recording AND the Groundwire VOIP softphone to record important calls because I could not afford to not have that recording, and this gave me a backup in case one recording failed (which never hapenned).
also, voip.ms lets you make outgoing calls through it where your number is masked and your VOIP number is used instead. I really like the ability to not disclose my cell number, and to be able to use a easily replaced VOIP number instead, because we all know that your number will end up in someone's phone where Facebook, Google, etc. will grab it.
ifman13, I tried skvalex however during the setup there's a step where it says "Enable Call Recorder service in accessibility settings" but grapheneOS restricts editing that setting and says "For your security, this setting is currently unavailable" with no workaround or option to unrestrict it.
This kind of app is a must.
Please do share about working examples and privacy/security aspect of them.
Also, would be great to hear something from the Graphene OS team regarding this, as this is very sensitive kind of app and yet very useful that many simple must have installed on their phone if not delivered with it
Is there any update on this, please?
As far as I can tell, android has built in call recording feature, the question is why is this disabled and how to enable it.
Can someone from awesome Graphene OS team please clarify this?
The PRIVILEGED (not restricted) access is a requirement for call recording. Being open source and fairly simple makes it NOT 3rd party and quite safe. The problem is that someone at grapheneos needs to be willing to audit the code (BCR) and include it in a safe manner.
matchboxbananasynergy Its been proposed many times to just include the BCR application. Its minimalist (the "B" is for BASIC, and the authors resist complex features), gets the job done, and avoids the complexity of having to keep it matched with future versions of AOSP dialer (lower maintenance burden than a "patch").
@ve3jlg I removed your post as the discussion around the politics, legal and business practices of Google have no relevance to the OP and would only serve to inflame and derail what has so far been a reasoned discussion.
As has also been referenced is that the project will never advise or advocate the use of/implementation of third party privileged services whether that be through breaking/bypassing the android security model or including them in the OS.
This is super frustrating because call recording is LEGAL in some jurisdictions, and for certain purposes. Making it impossible to do a legal thing here because it's illegal somewhere else is crazy. That's like limiting the top speed of all cars because of speed limits somewhere else.
isnt this the case play store and play services too? not being priviliged in system was accomplished with compatibility shims. could this be replicated with a call recording app? include necessary shims so user installed call recording app could work? am i misunderstanding how shims work?
Crystal The issue I'm seeing with that is that my understanding of what happens with the compatibility layer is that the privileged functionality is redirected to normal APIs that regular sandboxed apps can use. This is why some functionality is very hard, if not impossible to implement with this approach:
Crystal It isn't a matter of shims. It would be a matter of providing the data to an unprivileged application -- which is, from a security standpoint, a much WORSE solution than elevating the privileges of an audited and trusted application, simply because OTHER applications could potentially gain access to the audio streams.
Im using ACR Phone app from Aurora store.
=com.nll.cb
Its not foss but along with the ACR helper app made by the same company from APK mirror it records calls using the accessability services. I have sensors and network permission.denied for these apps. Besides recording it also allows me to set my default calling account and have the setting persist through a restart unlike the default dialer which reverts back to my sim after every restart. Hope this helps.
