Iam running MacOS Mountain Lion. I have borrowed a Huawei Mobile Broadband USB modem (model E182E) from a friend to check out how well wireless internet would work. I was not able to get it to work, which is not the problem I am asking about.
THe problem is now my WiFi connection is slow. I have unplugged the modem, and removed the Mobile Partner application. I am connecting to the internet via WiFi I've been using before. It is annoyingly slow. I am loading the same pages on an iPhone 4 quicker than on my MacBook Air.
How can I remove all traces of Huawei's software from my computer? I mean all drivers and extensions and anything else it may have gotten its dirty little paws on. I would like my Mac to work at its normal speed again.
Technical experts at the NCSC reviewed the consequences of the sanctions and concluded the company will need to do a major reconfiguration of its supply chain as it will no longer have access to the technology on which it currently relies and there are no alternatives which we have sufficient confidence in. They found the new restrictions make it impossible to continue to guarantee the security of Huawei equipment in the future.
As a result, ministers today agreed that UK operators should stop the purchase of Huawei equipment affected by the sanctions. There will be a ban on the purchase of new Huawei kit for 5G from next year and it will be completely removed from 5G networks by the end of 2027.
No new kit is to be added from January 2021, and UK 5G networks will be Huawei free by the end of 2027. This decisive move provides the industry with the clarity and certainty it needs to get on with delivering 5G across the UK.
The policy in relation to high risk vendors has not been designed around one company, one country or one threat. It is intended to be an enduring and flexible policy that will enable us to manage the risks to the network both now and in the future.
On March 12, 2020, the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act of 2019 was signed into law. This bill established a program to supply small communications providers with funds to offset the cost of removing prohibited equipment and services from their networks and replacing it with more secure communications equipment. Congress appropriated nearly $2 billion to carry out the reimbursement program, but as of today, none of the Huawei equipment has been removed.
I have managed to remove the glass and display from my unit, but I had to destroy the old screen (this was fine for me as it wasn't working anyway). The screen glass is glued to the bezel (circular metal part at the front with minute digits on it). The bezel is in turn glued to the rest of the metal body. The steps I have followed to remove the screen:
I added an Huawei router and now all devices connected to router are showing as device trackers. Is there a way to remove any of the devices added? I want to to set track_new_devices to false so I can keep the ones I want to track. The naming is quite confusing as well with some using MAC addresses and others the host name.
I put them in my secrets.yaml file just in case I want to use my phone MAC address in other things. Should it ever change, I only have to change it in a single spot rather than who knows how many later.
All is good, the only thing that I change is that I call the method removeLocationUpdatesWithCallback() inside the method location_initialize(). The first time the location removes but when I change the fragment and I return the removeLocationUpdatesWithCallback() does not work and I get on failure message:
Please check the Device Location Settings. The location function of Location Kit depends on the device location settings. For example, if the location function is disabled on a device, your app cannot obtain the device location. Therefore, it is recommended that your app check whether the device settings meet the location requirements before continuously obtaining the device location. Location Kit provides the function of checking device location settings. Your app can obtain the SettingsClient instance using getSettingsClient(Activity activity) of LocationServices and call the checkLocationSettings(LocationSettingsRequest locationSettingsRequest) API to obtain the device location settings. If the location settings do not meet the requirements, your app can prompt users to grant related permissions. The location permission must be granted to HMS Core (APK). In Android Q, Location must be set to Always for HMS Core (APK).
Germany originally avoided the implementation of a full ban of Huawei 5G equipment amid U.S. pressure to cut Chinese infrastructure providers. Instead, the government decided that all components that were deemed critical IT infrastructure needed to be certified by the authorities.
According to previous reports, a German interior ministry paper stated that the country is considering a ban on certain 5G components made by Chinese companies Huawei and ZTE. German media further stated that this ban could include components already built into networks, which would require that operators remove and replace them, reportedly without compensation.
I'm having issues removing widgets on my home screens. As with all android devices, you usually press and hold on a widget then drag it to the "REMOVE" option at the top of the screen. With the latest EMUI release from Huawei this seems to have disappeared. Instead you get a "floating" remove option (see below).
Now when I press and hold a widget the REMOVE option remains when I let go, allowing me to remove the widget. I now don't know whether I should turn the developer options back off and reboot again as clearly this has unlocked some feature changed by the recent EMUI update?
I'm stuck with this phone for the next 16 months or so, and at the moment I want to go back to OnePlus, only reason I took this phone was because despite it having a considerably more expensive retail price, the contract was actually cheaper than the OnePlus.
Don't get me wrong, the phoen is very good, but the software itself is very buggy. It randomly resets stuff like widgets, screen brightness, audio volume etc while you are using it. I can be listening to music or watching a video and the sound will drop considerably, and it has reset itself to the default and asks me that stupid question and warning about volume loudness. I get it on a reboot, but while I'm using it? Very annoying.
The deadline for UK telcos to remove Huawei equipment from their core networks has now passed, with BT admitting 2G and 3G services are still served by infrastructure that is not compliant. Yet it isn't clear what measures, if any, BT may face for this.
Britain's telecoms operators were served with formal legal notices by the government in November 2022, detailing their obligations to expunge kit from China-based Huawei, after the company was deemed a security risk.
As part of this, the companies were given a deadline of December 31, 2023 to cease using Huawei kit in their core networks. This was an extension from the previous deadline of January 28, 2023, which a number of operators (including BT) had complained they would struggle to meet.
The only voice and data services yet to be migrated are 2G and 3G, which accounts for less than 1 percent of its total traffic, the company claimed, adding that "We're working hard to complete this work."
However, any such action is unlikely to be taken immediately, as the country's telecoms regulator Ofcom has first to report on the progress that network operators have made on meeting these goals, and the relevant report is not due until 31 March this year.
"Government is responsible for setting and enforcing the rules requiring certain telecoms companies to remove Huawei equipment from their networks. Ofcom's role is to gather information on companies' progress and report this to Government," an Ofcom spokesperson told us today.
"I fully expect moves to extend it further to avoid any fines," telecoms analyst Paolo Pescatore at PP Foresight told us. "It underlines how reliant BT has been on Huawei and the complexities of removing a vendor entirely from both its fixed line and mobile networks," Pescatore added.
BT had previously stated that complying with the requirement to remove Huawei from its network would cost it an estimated 500 million ($632 million) between 2020 and 2025. All Huawei equipment must be removed entirely from the UK's 5G networks by the end of 2027.
It is not yet clear if other telecoms operators have failed to meet the deadline relating to their core networks. We asked around, but had not received responses by the time of publication. All will likely be made clear by Ofcom's report in March.

The move puts Canada in line with key intelligence allies like the United States, which have expressed concerns about the national security implications of giving the Chinese tech giant access to key infrastructure.
The government is also banning ZTE, another Chinese state-backed telecommunications firm. A government policy statement posted online says companies will have until June 28, 2024, to remove or terminate 5G equipment from Huawei and ZTE.
They'll also have to remove or terminate any existing 4G equipment provided by the companies by Dec. 31, 2027. The policy statement says the government expects companies to stop purchasing new 4G or 5G equipment from the companies by September of this year.
