Hi,

I want to inquire if NVDA will work with blockly.games? I have a son who is visually impaired and they are currently using this application for their computer science class.

Thank you.

Sadly no, Blockly Games did a lot of work to support screen readers, but the project ran into unexpected issues.

I'll email you directly and maybe we can explore options.

Blockly Games does not support screen readers.

However, we're actively working on screen reader support in the core Blockly library right now, targeting release next summer.

Some options that may work, depending on your son's age and details of his visual impairment:
- Scratch Tactile for hands-on block programming
- The BBC micro:bit accessibility page has a lot of information about how to teach programming to students with visual impairments
- Pauline Maas is a Dutch TVI who has some projects and resources for block programming

Are you and/or your son interested in giving feedback on our screen reader work in the next year?

Cheers,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response and for sharing those helpful resources.

And yes, we would absolutely love to participate and provide feedback on the screen reader support you’re working on for the Blockly core library. It’s exciting to know that this is in development, and we’d be happy to contribute in any way we can over the next year.

Looking forward to staying connected.

Warm regards,

Karla
