I have loved using blockly (used ardublockly, but it;s dead) and there are some options out there, but you need to buy their robot.  I just want basic capability for IO, motors, and such to run on a pi using thinkgs lke pgpio, etc.
Anything current that is available?  Any suggestions on where to look?

Thank you!

I checked Raspberry Pi's site and it looks like there's a couple options:
  • RasPi's official Scratch lessons - These walk you through a lot of the basics for how to use their Scratch app with Raspberry Pi.
  • Piper Make - This was an option for the Pico they recommended a few years ago that looks like it's still relevant.
I haven't used either of these options personally, so no guarantees.

Cheers,
Erik

I'm developing exactly what you are looking for. Still has a ways to go. It is a combination of blocky control software, called StemStacks and hardware interface to an assortment of sensors and controllers called StemCube.

Sensors include Radar, switches, temperature, moisture, IR, etc. Controller can control RC servos, dc motors, Lego motors, small steppers, relays, etc. If interested, let me know and I'll post the link and maybe a video or two. Been working on it for a while and starting to consider making it for primetime. Hoping to fund it through CrowdSupply.

Way cool! Keep up the work.  I am looking on how best to host it on the raspberry pi so the kids can connect to the hotspot and then program directly on the pi (trying to minimize laptop requirements).
I also am not sure if circuitpy should be used or just regular python to connect to the GPIO and such for the pi (ie the blocks generate the python so the kids as they progress can see the text, but not get overwhelmed).

Is the code in github?   what is the funding going to support?  The physical things?  I am not looking to make money, just support kids robotics.
