On November 10, 2025, the Blockly project and key Blockly team members will transition from Google to the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

After 12 years of growth at Google, the move to Raspberry Pi Foundation aligns with a shared commitment to Blockly's long-term growth as a core developer tool for computer science education and block-based coding.

What this means for you

  • No Changes Required: Existing projects do not need to change anything about how they use Blockly.

  • Remaining Free & Open Source: Blockly will continue to be free and open source under its existing Apache 2.0 license.

  • Continued Support: The core Blockly team is committed to ongoing feature development and support from our new home.

We are excited about this next chapter. You can read the full announcements on both the Google and Raspberry Pi blogs, and visit our detailed FAQ.

Thank you,

Rachel on behalf of the Blockly Team

And on a personal note: I'm going to work for the Raspberry Pi Foundation as the head of their new Blockly team, starting November 10!

Our commitment to accessibility is consistent through this change, and it is still top of the list for me in 2025 and 2026.

Cheers,
Rachel
