Almost two and a half years after it began, the Written History Project, initiated by the 50th Anniversary of Coeducation Committee, is now nearing completion. The book produced by the project, The First Women in Yale College: Reflections on Coeducation for the 50th Anniversary Celebration, is a collection of first-person essays that chronicles what it was like to be among the first women to attend and graduate from Yale College.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: 50th Anniversary Edition is an expanded reissue of the 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by the English rock band the Beatles. It was released on 26 May 2017, the album's 50th anniversary. It includes a new stereo remix of the album by Giles Martin, the son of Beatles producer George Martin.
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: 50th Anniversary Edition is available as a two-disc set and as a six-disc box set. The first of these offers alternate takes of the album's songs and of the non-album single tracks "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane". The six-disc Super Deluxe Edition includes four CDs and adds further studio outtakes, monaural mixes, a documentary, and 5.1 surround sound mixes of the album in both DVD and Blu-ray form.[3] Among these features is George Martin's 1992 TV documentary The Making of Sgt. Pepper. Also included in the Super Deluxe version is a book containing liner notes for the recordings, and essays discussing subjects such as psychedelic culture, 1960s politics, and the atmosphere in the Beatles following their decision to retire from live performance in late 1966 and focus on the recording studio.[4]
Coinciding with the 50th anniversary, Geoff Edgers of The Washington Post interviewed Richard Goldstein, who, in his initial review of Sgt. Pepper for The New York Times, had been one of the few dissenters when the album received unprecedented critical acclaim in 1967. Edgers revealed that the left-hand speaker that Goldstein had originally heard the record through was broken. After listening to the album again, Goldstein acknowledged that the faulty speaker would have affected his listening experience 50 years before, but he stood by his general assessment of the album.[8] The NME celebrated the 2017 reissue with a poll that asked its readers to name their favourite Beatle. George Harrison was voted in first place, ahead of John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.[9]
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band: 50th Anniversary Edition topped the UK Albums Chart,[21] and albums charts in Scotland and Belgium. In the United States, it peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200.[22] On Metacritic, the reissue holds a score of 100 out of 100, based on thirteen professional reviews, indicating "universal acclaim".[10]
Making its debut at the 2019 New York International Auto Show, the 2020 Nissan GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition takes the nameplate to a level that was unimaginable when it was first introduced 50 years ago. To celebrate the half-century of the GT-R, engineers challenged themselves to find undiscovered performance potential while still making sure the car can be enjoyed by drivers at any level.
"A GT-R is about total balance management," said Hiroshi Tamura, chief product specialist for the GT-R. "It is not about chasing a power figures, but creating a new GT-R, where no aspect has been overlooked. This is appropriate to celebrate the GT-R 50th anniversary."
The 2020 Nissan GT-R will come in three trim levels in most markets: GT-R Premium, GT-R Track Edition and GT-R NISMO. In select regions, there will also be the Pure, Prestige and Black models, but it is the 50th Anniversary Edition that truly celebrates the GT-R's rich heritage.
Inside the 50th Anniversary Edition is a special gray interior color scheme, which gives the cabin a sense of luxury, reminiscent of the atmosphere of the night sky after the twilight hour (the color is also available on select other 2020 GT-R models). Additional 50th anniversary features include unique steering wheel and shift knob trim, special embossed seats, an Alcantara headliner with unique stitching, Alcantara-wrapped sunvisors, and more.
"The Nissan GT-R has been the icon of our company's driving performance for the past half century," said Shinichiro Irie, program design director for the GT-R. "We were highly motivated to ensure that the GT-R 50th Anniversary Edition stands out. While the exterior and interior changes may seem subtle at first glance, they're still impactful, especially with the new paint schemes, keeping the car's lines and overall presence modern and edgy."

The 2020 Nissan 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition is a last-gasp effort at making the old 370Z as relevant as it can be today. Mechanically, the special edition is the same as a 370Z in Sport trim. That means it has the limited-slip differential, upgraded brakes and Rays 19-inch forged wheels. A 3.7-liter V6 with 332 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque is under the hood, and our tester is equipped with the six-speed manual transmission. Nissan is channeling its historic Z car past with this special edition car, specifically, it's celebrating the 1969 Nissan 240Z and the #46 BRE 240Z of the SCCA National Championship years.
Associate Editor, Joel Stocksdale: Looks like I get to be the party pooper, here. While I do think the 370Z looks killer in its 50th Anniversary duds (Nissan should offer a black and gold variation, by the way), and it certainly performs better than one would expect after all these years, the Z has far too many problems that are addressed by its competition.
Then there's the price. The 50th Anniversary Z starts at about $36,000, which is enough to get you either a base V8 Camaro or Mustang, or the 1LE Camaro with a 4-cylinder or V6, or the new Mustang EcoBoost High Performance Package. All of those offer much more performance for the money. Now, you can get a base 370Z for about $30,000. However, you lose the limited-slip differential, and you can still get a base BRZ, 86, Camaro or Mustang for less, but retain a limited-slip differential, have more modern amenities, and in the case of the American coupes, still have nearly as much power as the Z.
This is a general retail release, and will go up for pre-order on August 4 in Japan. The S.H. Figuarts Bruce Lee Legacy 50th Version is priced at 8,800 Yen (about $61 USD). The figure is due for release in December. You can see the photos below.
When I was a child, I had a collection of Matchbox cars that I still have today. When Hot Wheels cars came out in 1968, I started purchasing those. I spent the last week in the real-life 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Edition.
The 50th conference of the Austrian Association for American Studies sets out to explore America through its versions, understood as cultural practices of imagination and speculation that shape our perceived realities and that can manifest, for example, through single works and their variants, across media, and in various discourses, ideologies, or disciplines. As the notion of a version always implies a potential for plurality and interlinkages, we ask how past, present, and future versions of America function and interact: Which versions of America have emerged historically, when, where, and why? How do some of these create or celebrate awareness of their status as versions, while others obscure their versionality, aiming to naturalize themselves as a-versional in order to maintain the hegemony, e.g., of heteronormativity, patriarchy or white supremacy? How do versions of America emerge through one another, creating the U.S. as a multi-layered phenomenon? How are they told through different media, genres, modes, and forms of storytelling? How is America perceived as multi-versional in the U.S. and abroad? What are the political potentials of thinking through versions and how may such thinking engender new forms of resistance and resilience?
The polished-up edition of the album was originally released back in March with The Dark Side of the Moon 50th Anniversary Box Set, but this is the first time that the standalone Dark Side remaster is available on its own. Pressed on vinyl, CD, and Blu-ray formats, the physical package comes equipped with postcards, stickers, and a 24-page booklet commemorating the record, which Consequence recently crowned one of the greatest albums of all time.
