Good afternoon,

This past week, I was blessed to attend my children’s choir, band, and orchestra concerts. Each of my youngest three children had performances and they did a great job. There were limited people allowed to attend, yet it was awesome to attend them in person.

On another note, as I went through the readings this week, I spent some time reviewing why God allows affliction in our lives and how he helps us through it. The following two statements stood out quite a bit:

  1. Doctrine and Covenants 24:8 “Be patient in afflictions, for thou shalt have many; but endure them, for, lo, I am with thee, even unto the end of thy days.”
  2. President Nelson: “…it doesn’t seem possible to feel joy when your child suffers with an incurable illness or when you lose your job or when your spouse betrays you. Yet that is precisely the joy the Savior offers.” (‘Joy and Spiritual Survival,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2016)

For me, both of those statements capture the reality of going through difficult times yet the promise of help from the Lord to not only endure, but to have joy in the journey.  In this mini devotional, I share additional principles and thoughts that stood out to me.  Please share your thoughts on the topic as well.
