Hi all,
I just found out about this group today on MacVisionaries. I'm looking forward to seeing discourse here. That all said. What production tools do you all like? Me, I just use Garageband for recording. I've done most of the recordings on my myspace page live to 2 track that way, just feeding my Nord Stage and drum machine into a mixer, to show that I could perform this music live. I have done some things in the past where I've overdubbed as well. I do find garageband pretty easy to use with VoiceOver. I am however able to to make some things work with Screen magnification as well. As for hardware. I'm glad to see the return of knob driven synthesis, and Ui's on modern keyboards. The late 80's/early 90's were pretty scary in that regard. Finally, would like to know if anyone has any good music production software that's accessible on the iPad. I'm thinking of checking out the Korg apps, but I don't know if they'll be accessible. Anyway, maybe this will get some talking going.

Hello. I also just heard about this group. I also use Garageband, I am
using Gb 11 with a m-audio 49 keyrig keyboard. I love this set up, and
am looking forward to getting a room set up in the basement of my
house to record and hav more room to perform and all that good stuff.
I am currently learning how to play the piano. and want to learn more
instruments, I can play the trumpet a little still. I want to learn to
play a drum set. I learned a little in high school. But anyway there
is a little background on me. here is a link to my sound cloud page
were you can listen to my music created tin GB.

Yes! I remembered I really liked "TechnoBeat". Very nice analog like sounds.

Hiya Pete,
May I congratulate you for posting the first message!

I'm glad this list got some members, because I got banned from Mac Visionaries creating it LOL, but hey.

Anyways, yeah, Garage Band is a brilliant piece of code. I recorded my first EP on it, using soft synths, as well as audio tracks. There is however, new accessibility built into Pro Tools, which you can find more about on the Pro Tools access mailing list (which I'm also on), and there's some folks making some head way into Logic, possibly (I think), using some scripts that were originally written by a good friend of mine, who used to be in the RNIB. I'm hoping to get him onto this list too, as he knows far more than me, about every conceivable topic in the world LOL.

So, the three we got on OS X:

* Garage Band - Pretty much fully accessible.
* Logic - Was flaky at best last I used it, may have changed now.
* Pro Tools, definitely useable!

What hardware are people liking these days? I brought a TC Helicon VoiceLive 2, and am liking it a lot. it's expensive, but sounds great, and I think, if you don't have the fortune of getting a fully sighted person as a sound man like I did, it's conceivably memorisable.

HTH, and cheers to anyone who's joined this list.

Take care,

Hiya mate,
Glad there's a lot of Garage Band fnas out there! thought it was only me! A lot of sighted people poo-hoo GB as a very basic DAW, but I think they just haven't played with it enough.

If you want to go the whole way, I used to use GB with a Project Mix I/O, using a couple of bits of extra free software, and it was absolutely fantastic, so if you want to take music creation further, that's something that's worth looking into.

HTH,

Take care,

I think the thing that puts people off about GarageBand is the unconventional interface. I admit, at first, I wasn't really impressed either at first, But once I discovered the reliability, and power under the hood, I'm like "Yeah! This is Cool!".

Yeah, I got suspended there too. Being that half (I'd bet) of Mac users use them for musical endeavors, I don't understand but oh well. I'll stay on there as it's a good resource anyway. But back on topic. I'll be curious to see what all topics show up here. I do admit that I do have some vision, and make just as much use of Zoom as VoiceOver. But that's yet another reason I like working with GarageBand. It simplifies the interface. I'll be interested to see what discourse comes up about the iDevices here too.

Well, about topics, I don't want anyone to be worried about getting banned from here.

ATM, there's not enough of us to worry about off-topicness, basically, anything remotely related to music is on-topic here, and I'm not going to start bitching about people discussing other stuff, as long as no one bitches about me using words like "Blind", and "bollocks", as I think political correctness is a massive waste of time. That said, don't be disrespectful of others, that kind of thing, and we'll see how that all pans out.

Glad you're all here, and hope we all get some useful knowledge and laughs out of this list.

Cheers,

Take care,
