After years of hoping and waiting, we finally have our full-dome system installed. We have the SciDome XD and, so far, it's pretty awesome.

Our director wanted something to play at the beginning of our programs. She felt that the "sage on the stage" laying down a bunch of rules spoiled the atmosphere we were trying to create.

With that in mind, I put together the short video I've attached here. Naturally, the original is much larger but I don't think I could post a 2560x2560 video here.

I'd like to know what people think.

Hi Jim,

This is great !

If you're going to Spitz Institute, please submit this for "Show off !" evening.

Maybe a minor quibble - it looks as though your logo would be distorted when projected - did you map this onto a rectangle in space, or was it overlaid in the video edit?

Garland,

The logo was actually modeled and rendered in 3 dimensional space. When projected, it looks the way it's supposed to. I thought it looked a little odd on the screen but on the dome, the curvature is just how it's supposed to be.

Ken Murphy asked me to post the .blend file but, apparently, it's too big to share here. I'll put it on Google Drive to share and post the link when I figure out how to do that. :)

I hope to make it to the Summer Institute. It depends on how our hiring of part time staff goes.

OK, this should work.

If not, let me know and I'll see if I can make the file available some other way.

Jim,

Thanks for sharing, this is a great way to present the rules to a group and something we can easily adapt to our own domes.  Well done!

Very nice. We did something like this at Ott Planetarium to keep the safety/courtesy advice messages short and consistent.
