Hello, I am working on creating artistic content for our university planetarium. My question is, to project on the dome set up, do I need to map the video to a dome 360 shape via Blender? (I found the planetarium plug in)

If I were projecting 360 video footage (from 360 camera), what format does it need to be in? Do I stitch it first in Premiere then export or do I leave it unstitched.

I have been told that the specs are:

2560 x 2560 pixels across the dome.

·         Video should be formatted as an MPG-2

Thank you, if you can point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

Hi Erika,

Blender is one way to do it, but you might have other options available. See if your stitching software will output to fisheye—if that's good enough, great. If not, you can put stitched 360º video into Blender as a background and use a fisheye camera to "re-shoot" what you want to see on the dome. Let me know if you want a tutorial showing how this is done.

Thanks,
Ron

Here you go. Sorry it took a while. I've been ill.

Hi, I checked this out again and couldn't leave comment on Youtube - but under Camera Settings> Lens> Panoramic
I do not get the Type dropdown menu to choose Equidistant-Fisheye
Nor the dropdown to choose the Field of View.

I'm using Blender version 2.79, is that why?

Thanks!

If you’re using the Blender Internal renderer, that option won’t be available to you. It’s only available if you’re using the Cycles renderer.

The new Eevee renderer in Blender 2.8 has the same issue.

Yep—it only works with the Cycles render engine. I expect Eevee will support fisheye soon.

Hello, I am not able to get the same 'rendered preview' of fisheye preview at 2:57 mark on the video. I followed all the steps Panoramic- Fisheye Equidistant - 3D render - Cycles

Any ideas? Thank you

Send a screenshot, there could be a few different problems.

Try making sure the display mode is set to Render
